Tuna Fishing, Dodanduwa, Sri Lanka

This film documents the ring-net fishing technique used by the fishermen of Dodanduwa, Sri Lanka. I am very grateful to Sampath, Jayalath, Wasantha and all the crew of the boat Dalin for the opportunity to accompany them on a fishing trip. The footage was shot in November 2015 whilst undertaking a six weeks Sura Medura Art Residency in Hikkaduwa, and was edited in March 2016. The Sura Medura Residency is produced by UZ Arts and funded by In-Situ, Creative Scotland and the British Council. Links to video welcome. Non-profit shares only. Being stay home comfortably we anticipate prices of Fish & all other commodities in cheep rates. But when I see this video I realise how selfish we are. Just see those guys struggling to catch fish for our consumption. MAY GOD bless all of them by providing more vigour, strength & big catch as well. Amen

Sometime they get fish, sometimes they don't. They often go out twice a day. As suggested in the video, overfishing by the bigger boats means less fish for the smaller, local boats.It's a tough life there for fishermen and on this trip it was a small catch.

during may to September they could be catch lots of fish..it will be the monsoon rain time but on that time, sea is not like this..it will be the rough sea..sea life is mostly funny but too dangerous...

Yes, a whale-shark (at 12:25). Look closely you will see its distinctive white spots, then its tail-fin
