The cigarette plug should work as long as it is regulated to at least 10 volts. If its not regulated, it wont sense enough power going out of the plug, and turn off after a few minutes. The connector you mentioned for the fan is an Anderson Power Pole. Make sure you get the right size.

Thanks for the full walk through. Regarding the shell weight and off-roading, throw some bags on the truck and maybe a add a leaf and call it good. I have a double cab short bed TRD Tacoma with bags and a small lift. Going off road has never been an issue. Last year we did a Baja trip and I carried my Honda motorcycle with the rakattach 2.0 (thanks Greg for the info), kayaks, and a full bed of gear. We did some light-med off-roading with no issues. We did drag the hitch a couple times going to Guadalupe Canyon Hot Springs due to departure angles but it was soft sand so all good.

Thanks for the suggestion! We're going to see how it handles stock before we make any changes. I'm hoping it works as is to save some money. We're glad to hear that you had a Baja trip! We're scheming right now.

Congrats on the camper. We’ve used an IceCo in our van for a couple yrs now. We have a good lithium system and have always plugged in a 12v socket which works great. They do pull 5-6amps so you’ll want to have a good power source.

Thanks for sharing! We're looking through the power stations and batteries we have around the house right now. I'm looking for the perfect combination of enough power with ease of taking it all out if we need the truck to be a truck for a bit. We'll see what we come up with.

I think this is the second time I've watched this. I have an 08 Tacoma DCLB and have been on the fence between the Tune M1 and the Alucab. Both great products. I have a few questions..... 1). What made you decide to go from a van to a truck camper? 2) What had you considered aside from the Tune M1? 3). Have you figured out what accessories to mount to the M1? So I went to the Moore Expo last weekend...... Met Shawn from Tune and decided to buy. ..... I may have more questions and may subscribe depending if you get back to me. Thanks for the video.

Thanks for watching and make sure to smash that subscribe button! 😉 1. We knew we were going to be switching to part time travel so a truck made more sense. It serves us around the property and allows us to go more difficult places than the van allowed. 2. We looked closely at Oru and OVRLND. We ruled out the wedge tents because we knew we wanted all the space possible. We'll still be taking multi-month trips in the future. 3. We'll probably keep it pretty simple for now. I'll most likely fashion an awning with an easy attachment out of a camping tarp. It will be lightweight and strong. Let us know if you think of anything else.
@alexcarbery8189
@alexcarbery8189 5 ай бұрын
Concerning weight, you could add a leaf spring to up the load capacity and get some rigidity back in the rear. I think kits already exist for this truck. I’m interested in going this route too and starting at +400lbs I know I’m going to blow past Chevy’s rated limit 😅
@DrifterJourney
@DrifterJourney 5 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! I think we'll keep it under the weight as long as we don't go crazy with our gear. Adding a leaf would be the next step. I don't know a lot about it and haven't looked yet but would that change the flex overall? We want to keep it as capable as stock otherwise I probably would have gone with a lower trim with higher payload.
@alexcarbery8189
@alexcarbery8189 5 ай бұрын
@@DrifterJourney Makes it stiffer overall so it won't flex like it would stock, but it will ride much more comfortable. I haven't done it myself yet but check the forums and see what people say. If you expect to keep adding weight, it seems like its worth it.

Great info. Thank you cause im inetrested in this camper,can your bedding stay in place when closing the top?The weight check is important especially on a Tacoma, mine is the long bed,very important cause payload totals are low,suspension builds are not cheap
@DrifterJourney
@DrifterJourney 5 ай бұрын
I think you could leave thin bedding like sheets, but I would leave pillows or a comforter on the bed while it's collapsed. Maybe a down sleeping bag that can be squished would be OK. I agree with you about the suspension, we're hoping we don't need ti make any changes

So do you get road dust intrusion into the bed/cap?
@DrifterJourney
@DrifterJourney 2 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! It really hasn't been too bad. The worst was when we were doing 50mph down a dusty dirty road for a long time. It should be coming up in an episode very soon. Other than that, not much at all. We didn't find it to be an issue either.

How can u add awning with this setup?
@DrifterJourney
@DrifterJourney 10 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching! There are channels all over the Tune to mount stuff. You can easily add an awning and I believe they are selling an awning mount kit even. We went the frugal route and used a camp tarp that we used to use on our van. We find them to be really sturdy, lighter, and not too expensive if it gets ruined. We'll have a video about it soon.

These are probably designed around the tacoma, which has much shorter bed sides vs the chevy. Would explain the extra gap above the roof. Wonder if there is any practical way to use that gap for storage and fill that space for better aerodynamics..?

Has condensation been an issue yet?
@DrifterJourney
@DrifterJourney 5 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! It has not but I can almost guarantee there will be condensation. We lived in a van full time for 5 years and it seems that there is always condensation when camping in cold. That's even with it insulated, heated, and ventilated. We have learned ways to help mitigate it but definitely expect to encounter it based off previous experiences.

Thanks for watching. We weighed it in our install video. It came up at 500 but the truck scales are in increments of 20 so we think something funky happened.
