Man, your videos always cause me a sense of peace and nostalgia, missing the old days growing up roughin it and learning from my dad and my granddad about the old ways. I hope you never stop sharing these no matter what they're about. God bless, brother.

As long as I have been keen to your ways Dave there is no time of the year that your channel excites me more than trapping season. You are a well educated man and I strive daily to become as self reliant as you have become. I am an Ohio boy myself but after a decade in the service I have landed in western PA. I am big on taking trainings classes quarterly if not monthly and I am excited to see what your schedule for your Basics class looks like this time next year. Keep up the great work!

Hey Dave it may be different from guns, but for the most part springs gets damaged and weaken faster when you bend them past what they're original setting was at. I've seen happens a lot with magazine springs where guy stretch them out again to "give them more tension" and it ends up cutting the life on the spring. I don't know if the same may happen with trap spring but definitely information you should look into.

This is not my techniques brother I learned this stuff from guys who have trapped 40 years, so I would imagine it worked for them

Nice video Dave. I too have heard to have that hair trigger when the pan is level, but now I know how to make that adjustment. I have also heard the pan should be set to 3-5 pounds of weight on it, but the trap springs. Do you know how to make that adjustment? Any suggestions on how to measure the pan's trigger weight?

wildernessoutfitters ...I do have quite a bit of survival, woodworking, & hunting/ fishing skills...some sheetmetal experience too. But Ur metal working is on point & vast knowledge is awesome to say the least. Never understood why they kept Cody on Dual Survival...he ran off several partners before being let go himself. I know U can't comment there but U have 10×'s the skills he will ever have! Keep up the great videos.

Dave, is trapping just to get rid of animals that are pests like coyote, raccoons, etc., or do you also catch game animals?
@tnpsheepdog3289

Do with trapping as you please (given that its legal)! You can trap for meat, fur, sport or any other reason there is to capture an animal.

conibear.. they are "kill trap" design that do not have to be baited. they simply need to be set in the animals path to work.. which is by physically compressing/constricting the animal.. so unless another predator beats you back to the trap.. your quarry is sure to be waiting on you... because it is dead. great "goto" meat producing traps... just search.. "setting a conibear" and you can see exactly how they work.
