I had the wave box, she do a better wave than other device. The problem, she is noisy, it had to took her off.and even if she move the water, it is not enough for the corals you have to ad a pump.

Would it work in my 70L tank? The smaller device is rated from 150-300L My tank is 3 ft x 5/6 wide x 1

I have done it easily with a pair of Tunze Nanostream 6040s in a Red Sea Reefer 200xl without even using their master/slave cable.

I had a dump bucket wave maker on a 29 gal oceanic tank for 5 + years. Worked well and am still using the tank with no issues. I finally got rid of the dump bucket because I got tired of the wave surf sound every 13 seconds. I have an in tank overflow at the far end of the tank so the wave would slosh into the overflow. The other consideration is the overall water level of the tank has to lower to account for the wave height. The Tunze unit seems like a better solution than the dump bucket wave maker. No matter what mods I made there was always an issue with salt creep because of the bubbles made when the bucket emptied. I'll consider the Tunze unit on my next rebuild.

For all those worried about a sump you could do an overhead sump that overflows into the display tank. That would get rid of any overflow sloshing sounds. The way my overflow is setup it doesn't make any extra noise and I have waves going across from Gyre350. That being said it is a built in overflow and the stand pipes are only an inch below the teeth of the weir. HOB and canister filtered tanks would also work. I current don't trust my production tank with the stress but perhaps my next tank I will take the stress into consideration when building it. As it was said in the video not every option will be great for every setup but I can certainly see how this would be a great fit for some systems.

looks awesome, but i wish your tank in this video was running correctly,like water going down the overflow and seeing the waves then rather than water level lowered.

I use it on my 50 gallon lagoon, it’s awesome, and not really loud after it breaks in. I have the controller in the thumbnail tho, but ditched it and use my apex. When did they start using the new controller?

Ultimately I want to help reefers find the right equipment for them, so if any given piece of gear has limitations or considerations, I will make sure to let you know. Not every cool piece of reef tech is going to be a good fit for everyone, and I want to make sure people get what is right for them!

Wave makers in aquariums just make corals look ridiculous...it is such a slower serene affair in the back and forth of the wild, and just a jarring metronome in the confines of an aquarium

A wave box like this is not necessary on a small tank. My eflux does the exact same thing this large box does. Trust me it is EXACTLY the same but with a regular powerhead.

Not too far away from the truth, but to be fair we only had 2x in stock when this video went out. Hahaha! We'll definitely be getting more inventory as more and more suppliers return to normal business/logistics operations. I wish we could get stuff in faster, but at the end of the day the entire globe is feeling similar constraints.

Sure the lifespan on the aquarium is reduced... but the more immediate problem is shown in this video, your water is sloshing back and forth and how is that affecting the overflow. This video alone shows the water inches below the overflow teeth showing that type of tank is absolutely not recommended for those tanks, and even if you make the wave very small chances are you're going to get bursts of water going into your overflow. That said I have a 300g lagoon on the floor with only viewing from the top (no silicone seals to break or acrylic seams to fail) and at least 5 inches of play from the edge to the water height. So this may be an interesting choice. Although the tank is more oval shape so not sure if it would actually do much in it, I know it's super easy to get a gyre going with 15 watts of pumps (although I do use more to get some cross flow so the center isn't a dead spot).

Valid points, Mike. I think the reason you see the demonstration tank so empty and not reaching the overflows is due to Thomas still being in the building stages of the tank (meaning it's not currently running). However for the purposes of demonstration and with limited access to the amount and type of tanks like we have here at BRS HQ, he had to work with what he had. :)

You can use the wavebox in conjunction with just about any flow solution so long as the powerheads you're using remain under water at all times.

I feel the same. Anyway structure wave is noisy. It makes your tank sound like beach as water gush into overflow. I turn it off after a while.

Thomas is way past too energetic. When watching Randy and Ryan, I felt like I was getting good advice from fellow reefers, and I watched basically every second of their content. I stopped this video, about a product I was interested in, at 46 seconds. He's pushed me to find a new channel for my reefing advice.
