De La Soul saw what eventually would happen to hip hop at that time and they were ABSOLUTELY right.

What happened to Hip Hop was a direct reflection of everything that was going on in America: lawlessness from the White House to the ‘Hood. They just packaged the shit in CDs with beats and rhymes…

@@digitalScribr Ok.... *but even if you want to go with that philosophy,* that genre of HIP-HOP took over and was used against us! The BLACK experience isn't just about pure poverty, with nothin else of significance to rap about. Plus... not everyone was gang banging & drug sellin in the 90's & 80's, like America was some crime ridden WASTE LAND. The real issue.... Street Life Hip-Hop became OVER GLAMORIZED and like Dre said himself "Makes a gang of snaps!"

Stakes Is High is like the Musicians favorite De La Soul Album, because when that came out it inspired a whole new movement in Rappers, and Producers into going in an alternative direction with their art form without being lame, and to speak out against the B.S. in the communities and how it's glorified in the hip hop world.

All truth! I'm from Vegas graduated in 97. PAC loved it here. He would let us teens in to see him at club 662 and we weren't even old enough. I was one of the people in the long line following him to the club the night of his fatality. You had to be here to see how really odd the night ended up. Against all odds breaks all of his anger down from the day he got shot. Ain't too many can challenge that track. PAC could REALLY BATTLE if need be. Legend in his own lane.

I appreciate your recognition of "Stakes is High". Even though the love for "3 Feet high and Rising" has a lot of justice both in the street and the mainstream. But De La is so off the charts creative I will admit there are tracks I simply don't like and one's I can't live without. As a life long De La fan I kept finding myself gravitating to Stakes. I think Stakes hit the underground harder than any of their previous albums. I think their flow was more perfected by then. The one mistake I think too many people make is everyone gravitates to almost everyone's 1st album as "the one" but I think that is a massive discredit to the artists. True there is a nostalgia for that 1st time you ever hear something new and great but artists evolve. Especially the ones that are true artists and not just riding on their 1st hit track. No one of this planet call say De La rode anything. They always kept workin and they always have something fresh and original. Someone asked me if I watched the American music awards earlier this year... My response was "I'm sick of half ass award shows, sick of name brand clothes."

@Adrian Flores people forgot or dont know that he was only in his early 20s...plus he felt like people were always going after him. Law enforcement has harassed him and his family since he was born. Later on, it was his people (African American men) that robbed him and shot 5 times. At that point, he didn't know who to trust. So there are alot reasons. A lot people and uninformed "fans" just see Pac and think of hit em up and deathrow...he was much more that that...

Ya know the older I get the more I find issue and shortcomings from 2pac's music. What attracted me to it when I was younger was the intense passion and vitality coming from Pac's voice and lyricism, but as I mature a lot of it comes off as uninspired vitriol. After his masterpiece, Me Against the World, his lyrics became so heavily wrapped around feuding with other rappers and less about the music. And let's be real here, Pac did not have an ear for beats. When he was at his best lyrically he was pure fire but the beats almost never reached those same heights.

I think Pac and De La Soul could have collaborated after straightening out the misunderstanding. I know Pac was talking about releasing an album called "One Nation", which featured all East Coast artists (Nice and Smooth, Smiff N Wesson, Buckshot, Big Daddy Kane, etc). I know he wanted all that drama (East Coast vs. West Coast) at that time to stop. He even squashed beefs/misunderstandings he had with other artists like Chino XL and Nas, so the idea of him working with De La doesn't seem that far fetched.

Don't know if you know but in Naughty by Nature's video for "Uptown Anthem" Pac makes a mean cameo and Treach gets a little revenge from Juice. Also Pac sampled Uptown Anthem for the song "Bomb 1st" another hard ass diss. You prolly already know this Im just putting it out there for those who don't. #PACallday

De La Soul Is Dead is the most underrated Hip Hop album ever. All the new guys that are supposedly bringing hip hop to the next level are only picking up the mantle that De La Soul left, many years after the fact.

Yes, they would've definitely collaborated. Remember did love De La Soul, on the track "Old School" from the Me Against the World album, there was a shout out to De La Doul. "...When De La Soul was puttin Potholes in the game..." Pac didnt initiate this beef, he only responded to indirect shots perceived at him. Check out Pacs Aug 24 1996 interview, he talks about it.

I have always said that Against All Odds was the greatest battle rap song of all time... He came at like 9 people on that song. it didn't come at Jay-Z on Against All Odds that was bomb first... it was a classic battle beat and you know he was telling the truth for my soul. very gripping and visual imagine someone tell you " load em up against the wall closes eyes since you lie, you died... Goodbye" and notice he didn't come at biggie on Against All Odds either. he told Puffy " tell them people you roll with whatever you want but you are not know what's going on, don't we?

De La Soul just came out with another Brilliant album and they have always been true to who they are.Pac first was in a arts academy and studied acting with Jada Smith and then was making joke rap for digital underground, then came out and decided to be a poet and was nice with the pen and the story telling. But was he a real gangster or just doing gangster rap.De La has always been a NYC rap group you only say what is real.
