It's called a 300, damn it. The 240/300 began life that way in the 60s and regardless of that stupid metric designation taking over in the 90s, if it's in an old vehicle, it's a 300!(even though that vehicle never came with a 300 from the factory)

Because it was produced for so long, it started life as the infamous 300c.i. inline six cylinder engine. and then became the also infamous 4.9L inline six cylinder engine. the big difference between the early generation and the later generation. was the early gen. was carbureted and the later gen was electronic fuel injection. they were first introduced in 1965. and stayed in production on up into the late ninety's. they were used in many different kinds of vehicles. from cars, to vans, to pickup trucks, and all the way up to F 700 dump trucks. and they used in the big brown UPS trucks. and a fairly large number of them were used for industrial use. and some of them found their way into various different kinds racing. and had pretty good success. Bob Glidden and John Hasse experimented with them. this was perfect match up the big six in a Maverick. because of how the wheelbase is laid out the Maverick transfers the weight to the rear axle real well. Mavericks weren't known for being especially great street car's. but they make excellent drag car's. although the Grabber model was a pretty cool car.

@@AmericanThunder I have been an automotive technician most all my life. and a Ford service specialist most of that working for a Lincoln Mercury dealership. and over those many years I have built a number of FE engines. including a couple of them for myself. and I have owned a couple 300c.i. 4.9L inline sixes. and I still currently own one that is in a 1981 F250 4x4 with a four speed trans.. a person might say my area of expertise is in the FE engines. but I know the big six very well also. so when I say infamous the word legendary is covered under the umbrella. of the meaning of the word infamous. which it truly is one of greatest engines that Ford Motor Company has ever produced.

Joelson Richetti don't bother. stock rods can take 500hp on a full inside out build easy. this Maverick here had literally nothing done to it internally other than a rocker arm change and a bigger oil pump and pan, rest of the internal are stock. guy then just stuck a turbo with air to water intercooling on it and never had any engine problems. Google Mike s mean Maverick. it's fucking awesome.

C Man It didn't LOSE. When you go to the track, you don't pick your opponent or get matched up fairly. You get thrown in line with a bunch of other guys testing their cars out. So it's not about who else does what next to you. SOME ppl care about the guy next to them, but most of us don't. We want to know what our motors are capable of. This is sheerly a benchmark for our hard work.
