That's normal with blow off valves they're meant to blow off the high pressure using low pressure boost it only blows off lightly and still sends enough to the turbo to flutter

Eze&Yare Dominguez ehhhh. Had a an fmic mounted bov for years on my srt4 (old spearco fmic) never had a problem. Ran through puddles etc. it’s made for air to go out not in otherwise there would be no point to it. It’s made get rid of unused pressure not to create more.

Eze&Yare Dominguez id assume there was an issue somewhere else. Btw I tore the motor down due to lifting the head and rebuilt the motor since I was taking it apart anyways and upgraded to a pte6262. I’m not new to building engines or turbo cars. Depending on plumbing,space and set up it could be more efficient mounting it on the fmic. Also would depending if it is recirculating or venting to atmosphere. The 86 having a map sensor can be vented to atmosphere so where it is mounted is fine.

No, BOVs make the sound like in this clip. The stututu sound is made when you don't have a BOV and the pressure goes back through the turbo's cold side and out through the compressor.

Technically, both. If you have the wrong spring on your BOV it will cause the fluttering, due to the BOV staying closed and keeping the compressed air recirculating into the turbo system, which is NOT good by the way. The flutter will come mostly on cars with no BOV installed.

A BOV does not decrease performance. The theory of operation is based on the airflow characteristics of the turbo compressor. If you look at a "compressor map", it'll show you how much flow and at what pressure the compressor will correctly operate. The trouble is you can create a condition where the throttle is open or mostly open, the turbocharger is making boost, and the compressor is spinning fast. If you close the throttle, the compressor will keep spinning and trying to move a lot of air - but the throttle is shut, blocking airflow. Thus the pressure between compressor and throttle ramps up a lot, yet the airflow is small. Look again at the compressor map, and notice the compressor is out of it's happy zone at elevated "pressure ratio" but low flow. This causes a phenomenon called "compressor surge", which is a violent condition where airflow oscillates between the compressor inlet and outlet, causing that chuh-chuh-chuh-chuh sound. While it sounds pretty cool, it can damage the compressor and turbo bearings pretty fast. The BOV creates a new flow path when the throttle is closes - venting off the pressure from the compressor, allowing it to avoid the unhappy zone of the compressor map.

This is a valve that opens when you let off the throttle, allowing the charged air off the turbo to escape, which keeps it from backing up into the turbo and slowing it down.

sounds great, i have a similar turbosmart bov. When you tighten it to the hardest setting, does that make it the loudest? i know it makes it flutter a bit too. Just curious with adjusting it from soft, 50 50 and hard.

iTallented I havnt actually played with any settings at all I liked how it sounded out the box tbh, but next time I get the bumper off I'll mess around with It and let you know
