Our high performance Predator 670 dragster CVT blows up! The turbo 670cc V twin is ok, but the CVT torque converter driver blew to pieces, taking out a turbo oil line, cracking the carburetor bowl, and knocking off the air filter. The CarsandCameras drag rail blows up in this episode, but we will find a snowmobile transmission, and we'll take our Predator 670cc dragster back to the drag strip soon!

Use a snowmobile CVT. Right off a sled. Many are good for 150hp. Plus much aftermarket support with weights and spring's to keep the engine in the perfect RPM. I would love to see you guys try a XCR Polaris 800 engine and clutches. That would pull 100mph in the 1/8th

Something tells me it’s not a great idea to use a cvt because if it slips the belt like this one did it could make a bigger more potentially lethal bang, a trans and clutch from a motorcycle makes more sense just for safety, sleds are robust but they’re not built for top tier traction on prepped surfaces and could be even more prone to slipping a belt and blowing up the cvt, I’m not completely for or against a cvt but from seeing how everything went down that idea should go to a future project where centrifugal force, who knows how many rpm, and potential belt slipping upon launch is less likely to harm Ike

With all the fuel that came pouring out, you can see the need for a fire proof hood, worn under the helmet, that covers your neck. So glad the fuel did not ignite. I have seen the results of fire on a slingshot style drag rail at 2 of my drag strips and the end result was horrifying and sad. You have a nice set of race trim leathers, but really need a little more protection. Your fans want you to remain healthy and safe. Just finished watching and found out the liquid was oil, not fuel. You're extremely fortunate Ike. I was wondering why, what I thought was fuel, did not ignite.

They severely lack in safety equipment and almost every video that I have watched. They are very lucky the serious injury to Isaac's shoulder was the only thing that has occurred so far. Riding bikes most of my life everyone knows when you go down even on a bicycle the first thing you try and stop your fall with is your hands and they turn into hamburger but yet they don't wear gloves at least 90% of the time. A lot of young kids I'm sure watch these videos and this is no example as far as safety goes they need to look into that or it's possible someone might report them. And yes everybody wants all of them safe and healthy it's not that big a deal and you don't look like a wuss just because you protect yourself with proper gear but it appears they don't listen as I have made this recommendation well over a year ago multiple times. I'm surprised the track doesn't require it.

Hey guys, crazy Canuck here. I’ve ridden high performance mountain sleds that have produced up to 320 hp, that particular sled ran a Polaris four post primary clutch on the engine and could withstand the 9500 rpm the engine turned at. Talk to sledders, they can help you determine the correct weight and spring combination to obtain optimum shift rpm while maintaining maximum grip on the belt. Plus as an added bonus you have limited adjustment of your stall speed which should help your hole shot tremendously. Also keep in mind snowmobile belts can handle huge horsepower and not fail. On a safety note! Put a belt guard on that thing! I once got hit by a piece of belt frac after it bounced around engine compartment than came out through the hood and hit me in the shoulder, it left a bruise and sore shoulder for about three weeks! You fella’s are entering fatale speed territory, take some precautions please! I just found this Chanel and I want to see lots more of your ingenuity and insanity! I love it! A machine built from scratch using components never before mated and than tuning it til it goes killer fast…. What more is there!?!? Oh! Wait! (HEADSLAP) That’s right! Make it go faster!! Throw a Sportster engine in there, and put a Hammer Performance 1275 kit in it. Easy 150hp 👍 Plus you get the benefit of a 5 speed gearbox, would be easy to run the clutch cable to a foot pedal and custom fabricate a shift lever that simply goes back and forth. If you're feeling really creative, you could maybe even have the shift lever work the clutch and change gears in the same movement. Would be kinda awesome.

Did you see his goggles? They were covered in oil and he probably couldn’t see well. Also, he was between the grooves. Had he moved to the side, he would have dumped oil across the actual surface that most cars have rubber on. You can see the two tracks that cars follow, oil in the middle is less of a problem than oil crossing those tracks. In this case, staying in the middle was probably the best option.

Did a snowmobile clutch years ago from a 70’s Kawasaki that needed a taper shaft mount. Never touched the straight shaft out of the engine. Made the taper sleeve piece that did not have a key way for the fit piece. Kept taking small shavings off the turned shaft to find the right taper angle. Had a longer undersized though bolt inside the taper as an extra long sleeve mounted in the lathe chuck. I could undo the nut check the taper fitment with lapping compound. Once satisfied with shaft taper then re-chucked to do shaft bore with a thou to a couple thou undersized press fit. Did lots of measuring to figure out the cut off length for clutch and engine wall clearance good fit. Heated the taper sleeve, placed on shaft and left a blunt nose on taper mate end for another sleeve to hammer tap taper to engine shaft. Used many different lengths of bolts when finished mounting clutch to new tapered engine shaft. Also left a step collar on engine side for a pickle fork or 3 jaw puller in case I had to pull it off the shaft if I had to replace the engine. And yes it’s like 3 engines later on this flint stone backup high seat open floor full suspension kart. The Kawasaki clutch needed to be tweaked every time the engine changed for spring tension and dawg weights changed for engaging rpm speed, to also not over weight the cvt to find the engines power band of an even acceleration power curve. And not do the fling to high rpm and full clutch engagement and radical tire burn. I wanted the pleasure ride of a full suspension go karting off road crawler if need be driving machine. Just add or remove material till you find you sweet spot. Yeup I bought a couple of belts for the figuring of the right sized parts for my ride. I even had to re drill the low end spring engagement side cause snow machine were like plus 3000 rpm and I was running stock Briggs at first. And then I figured out the dawgs issues... blank slate learning. Oh read up on old sled torque/hp specs and took a guess on the engagement side as I knew most clutch designs as the kid mechanic that I was.. I simply made it work. That frase going back to the drawing board was really a good part of the journey. Lathe and milling machine often are required parts for this type of play... enjoy the go

In FSAE the torque converter is required to be covered with a steel shield for this very reason. Would recommend TC scatter shields in the future. Also have a look at Microsquirt EFI. It would be so much better for controlling this setup. Would suggest using Gates Barricade fuel hose, a Walbro GSL393 fuel pump, and an aeromotive regulator with 4an fittings. Use LS ignition coils for spark, 550cc denso injectors for fuel. Use a crank trigger mounted between the drive pulley and the block and run wasted spark. From there you need a 30-40mm throttle body mounted after the turbo with TPS, a 3 bar map sensor, and an intake air temp sensor. A proper plenum will improve cylinder to cylinder distribution of air. For a 670cc engine a plenum with a volume of 1 gallon should be about right. Executed right that list of parts should get you to 100hp or more. Many FSAE teams achieve 70-90hp with similar parts on motorcycle engines breathing through an 18mm restrictor.

You guys should swap to a rear differential and driveshaft. You can turn the motor 90° and make everything much safer in case the motor or clutch comes apart. If you do a quick change then final gear changes literally take a minute to do. You could run a torque converter setup like you are just instead of going to a jack shaft you turn the driveshaft for the differential. The other option is a transmission which would be pretty sweet but what to use I haven't any idea. I suppose you could literally make a flywheel clutch and mount up a manual transmission but you would need to have an adapter plate made to mount to that specific engine.
