Just for anyone curious. Rear mounted turbos don't cause appreciable amounts of turbo lag. Air pressure will equalize within a sealed volume at the speed of sound. It CAN potentially cause turbo threshold issues, due to the thermal energy loss over the length of the exhaust. Turbo threshold and turbo lag are two entirely different things.
@Bradley0beaver2 ай бұрын
rubbish, changing from a log style manifold to a sidewinder causes a huge amount of lag, having the exhaust run all the way to behind the cab is certainly going to add noticeable lag
@Urapunk2 ай бұрын
The answer to this problem is 1. Nitrous 2. Another turbo 3. A bigger turbo
@Bradley0beaver2 ай бұрын
@@Urapunk How would a bigger turbo ever fix this problem, it would make it worse
@jacobrzeszewski65272 ай бұрын
@@Bradley0beaver as I said, your confusing lag and threshold. Turbo threshold is the RPM that the turbo starts generating positive boost. The log manifold and longer exhaust tubing causes a reduction in exhaust energy, meaning you have to rev higher to generate the same amount of boost. Turbo lag is the time between mashing the pedal and the turbo spooling up to maximum boost when your already at the threshold RPM.
@Bradley0beaver2 ай бұрын
@@jacobrzeszewski6527 i still don’t really understand, on my setup you stamp on the throttle at 2k rpm or at 4k rpm, you still need to wait 1000rpm for the boost to begin building properly, from 2k-3k, you start at around 105kpa (wot positive pressure) and by 3k you might have 140kpa. After another 1k rpm your at 260kpa (full boost). Whether you start at 2k or 4k you still need to wait for the turbo to spool, yes it is still faster to spool at higher rpm, but with the log manifold it was 700-1100 rpm sooner from wot to full boost across the Rev range

I love the comments on turbo lag, as if this setup is going to have any at all. Plot twist, remote mounting won't make a difference literally at all.
@bassman50662 ай бұрын
Especially not on a big displacement V8. This shit was done before most people commenting were born with turbos from Detroit powered trash trucks mounted in the rear wheel wells of muscle cars.

@@LeeSchofield-gr4mq I will not be accepting criticism from somebody who cannot differentiate between "your" and "you're"
@bassman50662 күн бұрын
@@LeeSchofield-gr4mq kind of... There's a lot one can do to hold in the heat if they want to make the investment but header wrap and ceramic coating ain't cheap. There's also a thing called inertia. In a large displacement engine you just have a big ass air charge flowing through the exhaust even at idle, which keeps the turbos spinning depending on how they are sized relative to that exhaust flow. The turbos spinning have inertia themselves because they are already spinning, and there is already air moving on the cold side as well. All of these things contribute to less lag and if you properly size the turbos and plumbing, remote mounts can work very well especially if you have a heavy breathing V8 to begin with.
@LeeSchofield-gr4mq2 күн бұрын
@bassman5066 your still wrong the closer the turbo is to manifold the more heat. The more hat the more expansion. Heat IS energy!!! You can wrap it in as much shit as you like your still loosing heat =expansion = energy. It's all simple shit man dunno why your trying to convince anyone any different?

I love when guys do the "cold air intakes," and stop where the ram filter on this guys set up is, whilst removing the borders that seperate the engine bays heat from the intake air, so they really just added a ram air intake with a K&N filter they most likely didn't oil at all let alone properly, and then wonder "man why does my car run shitty now?" Well bud, bevause your car is a atock cold air intake from factory, what ya did was make it a hot air ram filter intake. The seperators are there for a reason, thats what makes the air intake "cold," but if you really want to take it to another level you set up a very small refridgerant system almost no bigger than a small cars ac evaporator, and basically freeze the air as it comes through to be packed into the engine by the turbo, since air thats 30ndegrees less than ambient temperature is typically almoat 2x as dense, you get WICKED power boosts from that icy air. Thats why cars usually run way more responsove on days with temperatures around 30 degrees lower than the day before, and on colder days generally so long as its not cold enough to hinder fluid travel but after it warms up thats bot an issue either really
