“I'm afraid because of the uptick in the bombing and military threats to ships in the Black Sea, I am not optimistic that this deal will be rescued this time.”
Former UN Secretary General, Sir Mark Lowcock, says the only thing that could save the Ukrainian grain deal is Russia’s “important ties and relationships” with Turkey.

@@noirekuroraigami2270 So why don't Western governments offer to re-insure the ships against war damage? There's precedent for that kind of thing - in Northern Ireland insurers didn't want to insure businesses because of concerns that the IRA and other terrorist groups would blow them up, so the British government went into the insurance business. As long as your business burnt down as a result of "terrorism" the government would pay you out. Obviously it would need to be an international project as shipping is an international business - London would be the obvious place to organise it as it's the HQ of the International Maritime Organisation and the centre of the world marine insurance trade.

Because Russia has good ties with many African COUNTRIES (not the entire continent). Russia has repeatedly subsidized some African militaries, by eliminating their debts with Russia, after which those countries took out more debt and then financed purchases of more Russian military equipment. Some political reasons too, like supporting each other in the UN, or Russia providing security services for African mining companies (Wagner's original gig). They all have stakes in continued good ties with Russia.

The Russians should be told in order for a Russian grain or fertilizer ship to pass through the Bosporus into the Mediterranean, it must be paired with a grain ship which came from Odessa. Russian morale might be low, they might be low on supplies, but in practice they defend quite successfully all their massive minefields and Ukraine is hammered by attack helicopters, artillery all the time. Russia is also striking at cities and ports quite frequently causing a lot of destruction (and civilian deaths), defenses can not prevent this. What can and may do Ukraine do to do some real pain to Russia except from damaging the Kerch bridge?? Does the USA realize this? What is the use of protracting the war? The USA could send better weapons or impose sanctions or counter measures that really work?
