Flying very often between Istanbul, Dubai and Doha. Using 3 airlines, TK, Emirates and QR. So far my experience QR has best service but others are close. The only thing with TK is that I believe they do not put ME destinations high on their list since the local carriers are already superior, they dont feel they should compete. Their focus lies more on Far East, Europe and US. Obviously there is also a big price difference, TK is usually much cheaper compared to QR and Emirates.

Allowing passengers to have the window shades open when others are sleeping is a relatively new phenomenon. A decade ago, almost every airline I flew on (European, Gulf, Asian, and others) made people close their window shades so they could completely darken the cabin during sleeping hours. The Boeing 787 was designed during this period, and this is why Boeing decided to implement a window darkener instead of a shade, so that people could still look out even when the crew did such a thing. Of course, when most airlines stopped this practice, that design became irrelevant (there are some airlines, e.g. American, that instruct their crews to not use the global darkener control on their 787s).
@Tee55118

Back before most passengers were born, before seatback screens, there was the big movie screen up front showing one selection from a ceiling projector, and window shades had to be down to prevent daylight from shining on the big movie screen and obliterating the view. Now, with seatback screens or laptop/cell phone videos, the shades down request strictly is as Nonstop Dan said, to get people full and drunk and sleepy and warm and passed out so flight staff can hide and gossip among themselves. Also, many poor reviews make me wonder how corrupt the flight staff placement process is. I know what I am talking about. I have flown worldwide since the 1960's.

Turkish has many good things about the airline, I flew their business class from Washington d.c to Istanbul one time and the experience was stellar! But now watching this video I didn't feel the same great airline it once was. But I do understand that covid has been reducing the "amazing" and outstanding first, business, and economy class service from the past but I cant blame them as of other airlines are still some what struggling. But this was an awesome video dan I appreciate you for making it and letting me experience it! 😁👍👍

Dan, great video's. I am former cabin crew. I spent the majority of my career on long haul. Closing the blinds after a main meal service is to enable passengers to rest or sleep or relax and watch a movie. I can assure you that ''cranking up the heat'' is not what happens at all. The cabin temperature is set on an onboard computer, if anything it can get cold during that part of the flight, and that is because people who are sleeping feel the cold when they wake. With the greatest respect, ''cranking up the heat'' is insulting to the cabin crew community, who as you know are there primarily for your safety, but also your comfort and to give you the best customer service. I, like other crew took various advanced customer service courses and supervisory one's. I don't know where you got the ''closing windows and cranking up the heat'' to make everybody sleep from, but that is, I can assure you a misconception and a false rumour. There may be poor airlines, just as poor customer service in the air as on the ground, but this never happens in most reputable airlines. The idea is to give everybody a service above and beyond, to allow for maximum rest on long sectors, so passengers are as refreshed as possible, then served a light snack, breakfast, supper, afternoon tea ( whichever is applicable ) about an hour and a half before landing. Hope this helps.

I just finished watching the video!! The comentary was splendid as usual. I'll miss sports anchor dan! Your review of Turkish airlines was splendid, as was the other 2 flights in this series. I really enjoyed that you flew on 2 aircraft on the videos. It really helped show what you can truly expect as not always will airlines offer the premium cabin that is seen everywhere by travelling on 2 aircrafts, one old and one new. I must mention though, I'm not a resident of turkey or have I ever flown on Turkish airlines, nor am I a "Turkish Airlines Fan Boy" 🤣 but I think they are really trying to improve! A few years ago I hadn't heard of it and now it appears everywhere. Although it may lack in some areas, it shows that they are trying to improve! I must say, Dan's production is just amazing and splending.. keep up the good work, I wouldn't miss a single video! Love your vids Dan ❤️

Great report Dan! I’m not a fan of the 777 and try my best to avoid flying on it - never had a really comfortable flight. However, I’ve flown both the Emirates and Turkish 777-300ER and Emirates had a better, more comfortable product (on the most modern one). The Turkish one was comfortable on an aisle seat for a 3.5 hr flight between London and Istanbul. Tired cabin and IFE was the same as you experienced, but both airlines had fantastic meals. It’s a great airline though and have a substantial route network with very competitive pricing. Haven’t tried their new aircraft, but look forward to doing so in the future! Keep up the great work! 🙌

Hopefully, they can reconfigure their 777-300er. The size and the length were supposed to be comfortable on the 777, but that is not what airlines think unfutunnaly. From what I know, Japanese carriers offer the best economy product as other Asian airlines.

Back in 2016, I flew TK from IST-BOG, it was a 13+ flight and they couldn't stop feeding you! But in 2018, I noticed that their portions had gone smaller and there seems to be less on the tray now (pre-covid). 2 weeks ago, I did YUL-IST in a A350, then IST-GYD in a old A330, a few days later GYD-IST in a A320 and one week after IST-YUL in a A350. The YUL-IST flight was the best flight I ever had. Cathering was great, service was perfect, the A350 was wonderful. After a very long walk in the airport, I took the A330 to Baku, I was surprised to get a full service meal on a 2h45 flight. But the old A330 is not a A350. On the A320 to go back to Istanbul, it was OK. But the nightmare starts on the flight back to Montréal... First, I was not able to get my boarding pass online, I had to do the lineup at the airport. But there are 4 desks for the 2 flights to Canada on that day. And on those 2 flights, there were around 100 migrants per flights, with all their life as bags. So it took 2 hours to got my boarding pass even if I was at the airport 4h30 before my flight. Security was fast, then, boarding... Only one poor lady was at the gate do board a 300 passengers flight. With most passengers unable to speak or understand English or Turkish. So as she called Business Class, everyone ran to the gate. A mess. In flight, I was so lucky... no more choice for the lunch so I had to take the horrible pastas... witch I didn't eat. I ate only a small pudding in the entire flight... So the inbound flight was a 5 star flight and the return a third world flight.

Interesting comments about seat width (or lack thereof) and whether 3/3/3 or 3/4/3 might be better. We are not all elegantly slim waisted like lucky you, Dan. For me, the really BIG benefit of premium and business is seat width. Forget everything else, I want seat width. That is why I am leery of front row seats which replace a seat mounted table from in front of you with a pull up table from the armrest - that reduces seat width. Do you remember the wonderful wide seats on Singapore business - I think Dan might think he had been given a sofa for two!

This specific 777 and 2 others that are leased from Kenya Airways (TC-LKA, TC-LKB and TC-LKC), aka the ones in the rare configuration you mentioned are far less comfortable than their regular 777s. Usually they only send these 3 on flights to India and on short domestic hops, surprised they used it to Dubai in your case. Some 777s are already equipped with their newer IFE version which is soo much better

Really great! I had heard the comment about the plane temp being raised to make pax sleep. It's happened to me several times HNL-IAH. The last time I almost could not breathe it was so warm. And people were falling asleep. I can't sleep on a plane. So I walked to the back of the plane and ask the FAs if they could lower the temp because I was so hot. Then I proceeded to tell them the same thing you mentioned. They looked very shocked and did not deny it and looked at each other as if to see......we got caught. Then one of the FAs made the comment, "that's because your so hot looking." I rolled my eyes. Got some ice water and returned to my seat hoping it would help. I was watching for the pilot to walk down the aisle but never saw him. They do that sometimes on red eyes. This was United you might know. Another pet peeve, they no longer serve a meal on the 8 hr Hawaii flight because it's domestic. I think now they do have a sandwich that you can buy at a high price. Oh well, what you gonna do?

I then spoke to Turkish Airlines a couple of times, one lady said the boarding pass does need my middle names like it says on the passport. The other lady said no it should just be my first name and sir name. Can anyone help? Thanks

I had flown Turkish Airlines in the past, before the newer aircraft, from US to Istanbul. The food is always excellent, but I always complained about the legroom. You have to pay extra for a better legroom seat. The business class in the past was outdated, but I see they've now joined the other airlines to have the same as the rest of Star Alliance. But the one thing that I always enjoyed about their business class was the "bedding" they offered, nobody else had it. Also Turkish Airways was the first to do the Premium Economy which was a hybrid between business and economy, unfortunately they got rid of it but now the others like United have it. Those were excellent because the seats were better than economy but not as expensive as business, like Business Class of the 1990's.

hi dan! btw the 777-300er that has 4 seats in the middle in economy (turkish airlines) has more space between seats, and the 1 blanker per row surprised me, because i have always flown with turkey and always every seat has its own blanket.

Turkish airlines used to be good. Just flew with them recently on economy from LAX to Cairo. I canceled the return trip. It was a horrible 13-hour flight from LAX to Istanbul. The attendants look grumpy and the food was a joke. The seat was so small. Unfortunately, seems their quality is plummeting in a really bad way. I switched to Qatar airways - Q suites. I think that’s the best option for long haul flights.

Dan, the reason Turkish gives one blanket per row is that it wasn’t an over night flight, but still I love their 777s and 787s bc they’re very comfortable.😀

Dan, You need to fly on the A321, i found it very roomy in economy. The boeing 737 was cramped by comparison.

Turkish Airlines, pre-covid, flew to more countries and cities than any other airline. Funnily enough, they managed this without serving a whole entire continent (Australasia), although Istanbul is quite far from there so maybe that's why. They should start serving Perth though.

I flew them last week in Business Class from Odessa to IST and to FRA, A321 and A330. They were such a disappointment . The lounge was all in reforms, pretending to be concerned about COVID, but the wine was all piled up in a table, where everyone just grabbed it and poured it, which showed that covid was just an excuse. The Crew did not even acknowledged my presence, no welcome aboard... i was terribly dissapointed. What happened to Europe best airline?

Dan, I did DXB-IST-VIE 4 days after your flight. It was on a brand new TK Dreamliner, and a horrible experience! I love Turkish, but it was so uncomfortable. Seats as narrow as on Wizz Air, no hygiene kits, only one blanket per row, and of course, windows were dimmed right after breakfast. Why would I want to sleep at 8 AM? I just got up! I generally think that Turkish can't figure out how to do service on middle-haul flights. TK service is almost too much for the short European hops, and very satisfying on long-hauls (great amenity kit, superb food, less cramped economy than on other airlines onboard the 777s and A330s). I will avoid their 787 in the future. Although, I would probably do their IST-MEX-CUN flight. Just for fun, and with the right amount of (alcoholic) drinks. 😀

I dislike their 787s as well. I heard that there aren't any power sockets in the Economy class and the 3-3-3 layout with 30 inch pitch is not my favorite on the 787.

@@ptrs559 no alcohol at fucking all. ist-mex-cun is a f nightmare...19.5 hrs on plane...at middle of a night they stop at mex city, waiting 3 hours, cleaning the plane,... refusing to give you water (no A/c on..), no alcohol either...it was the worst.
