As a 65 yrs old Turk, I did live every moment of that era. I even worked with one of the bands showed in this documentary. I did not even know such a documentary was exist. Thank you for making this video and bring it in attention. I did enjoy every second of it. Those days were the most beautiful part of the history of Turkish music. But very rarely we do witness such a band comes ever again. This applies to whole world music. Thanks again ❤

Barış Manço wasnt really an Elvis impersonator like the guys in USA, wearing same clothes and singing Elvis songs.Just his style and inspiration was very similar -Elvislike- until Anatolian Psychedelic came up. Old school rock n roll.

The real Elvis impersonator in Turkish music was the late Erol Büyükburç 😄. Make no mistake he was also a great singer, it was kinda like his gimmick especially in his early years. He wrote all his own songs and didn't steal songs from other foreign singers like some other Turkish singers

Anatolian rock revival has not started in 2000s with gaye su akyol or altın gün. İt starts in 1993 with Haluk Levent. Just listen Kağızman ör Akşamlar. People forgot easily. He was the one who built the road for Şebnem Ferah or others in 90s.

3:51 Ottoman Traditional Music was never banned, plus there's no such thing called traditional Ottoman Music. There were various music genres during the time of the Ottoman Empire. Turkish classical music which derives from the Sufi Tasavvuf music still continues to be performed to this day although lost it's popularity a lot in the recent years. Anatolian Rock took it's main inspiration from the Turkish Folk Music as the name suggests

Dude! I'm wondering what your reaction would be to this young musician : Evrencan Gündüz. He recently released an album called "Anadolu Funk" translation:"Anatolia Funk." His dad was a great guitarist called Asım Can Gündüz. He was well known in America as "Awesome John" (cuz they couldn't pronounce his name. 😂) Give his sons' songs a listen please and let us know what you think. There's a lot of colabs Evrencan has done and he sang some English songs as well. A great artist himself.

The banning of Anatolian rock music was related to the fact that the musical style represented a trend during the difficult political years of Turkey. There is no such concern today. Music of all styles is free and people are listening. However, as the country's founding ideology deviated in the 1980s, it was a precaution to protect the founding ideology (republic). But it didn't succeed. There are sometimes ridiculous bans in Turkey, but they don't last long. The founding ideology initially banned folk music and supported western-style music, but this was misunderstood by some officials. In fact, they misunderstood what Atatürk wanted to do and followed a very wrong westernization policy. These policies were generally determined by the army until 2015. Many bans were lifted when the military's influence on the administration waned. It goes without saying that the discussions other than this will be political debates.

12 September 1980 military coup fvcked everything in Turkey. I have to mention that it was again an American gladio backed coup against Turkish independence and progress just like the CIA backed failed coup attempt of 15 July 2016. I remember that US also intervene Canadian politics in 70's also.. If im not mistaken even a national made Canadian fighter programme had been completely destroyed for political matters and Canada had to bought US F18's instead of her own.

He didn't literally impersonate Elvis, what he means is that he looked up on Elvis at the beginning of his career, just like John Lennon and many more. He never impersonated Elvis, there is no clip or video. It's a figure of speech because he had a similar hair and clothing at the very beginning of his career for a single photoshoot.

11:20 boss, be sure Turkish youth were more free back in the days 60’s and 70’s if we compare with today, military coop f.cked up everything in 1980 12:20 Aşık Veysel passed away 51 years ago today, and guess what? My parents were born 10 km away to his village, he is legend of Turkish folk music who inspire 70’s anatolian folk rock scene 15:45 Selda Bağcan was on stage of Primavera Barcelona festival couple years ago, i was waiting for Radiohead’s live stream on youtube, then Selda was on stage, i was really surprised, she has become popular again on Europe in last 10 years after anatolian rock music being popular 19:00 as u can see, very famous singers use samples from 70’s Turkish Anatolian Rock Music scene, this was from Selda too😊

Although i love Rock music, but as a musician the truth about evolution of the music is changing so often but also creating new cults/generations which impacts the culture and society. Thus I do not listen music and i rare play with my guitar which I used to enjoy hearing appluases when i was on the stage. I now feel new generation musics disgusting to me never turn on a radio channel in my car. I am more optimistic than before I just listen relax musics, instrumental, classic, solo musics. I give little tolerance to listen old Turkish rocks and 90's pop musics. Thanks for the video bud.

Hello , i wish youre ok rob , This video is weird as hell for me , and i guess it summerized totally realy important points like the era of cazz 35 -55 , on bosphorus american ships and night life in istanbul and the great musician migration , after that we got not just 1 type of music but its all cultivated as disintegrate the anatolian soul ... You would find lots of italian , french and english songs turkish versions and some people in Turkey financed that type of music for degenerate the culture , Anatolian rock scene is not supported like the others unlike the video says , there was a tv program called siyaset meydanı '' political arena '' in 90's Barış Manço tryed to explain some things in that program about that degeneration project and then we assume that they killed him... He was a great guy , great soul and still an inspiration for lot's of people... Btw Altın Gün is a mixed dutch+turkish band and they are great too ...

Hey man. I do not know english. but maybe you can express what you are talking about with a subtitle. And I must tell you that Turkey is a country that listens to all kinds of songs. And what we call arabesque is not an arabic song. I recommend you the beautiful pop songs of your father Müslüm. Everyone has been listening to this song lately, especially due to the pandemic. Teoman sang the original song of this song. And it became a classic song of the 90s. Müslüm Gürses reinterpreted this song in the early 2000s. Müslüm Baba is a legend. The name of the song is very bad in English. Turkish paramparça

Arabesque is decadent music. It's not even music. All those who used it for commercial reasons were wiped out of the market. Zerrin Özer, Yeliz, Teoman, Duman and now Mosso will share the same end.
