I love these methods of tying the Turk's Head. In my car, I have a mandrel with at least ten of these ready to go, and I'll put them on random things throughout my town at night just to spread the joy of fancy knotting!

That's a beautiful idea! 👏

Turks Head have frusrated me for years and for a long time I just gave up. Even though I had to tie it on a mandrel due to left hand disability, your tutorial enabled me to tie my first successful one!!! Thank you so much.

Back in the day, learning knots from an old salt or exchanging knowledge about different knots was considered a currency. I consider the 9 min. 23 sec. watching this video time well spent. Now, off go I to practice earning my salary.

You are amazing Mikko! You have a way of making knot tying very clear. Though it might take me a few tries to get it right, I have now learned a new and better way to make turks heads. Thank you for sharing.

Great explanation and nice music. Found out, that’s it more easy for me to weave using my fingers instead of mandrel.

I do outside/down/inside, etc like you. When I turn my hand over I have 2 parallel lines. I pull inside over an push outside under to create 2 crosses on back side. Then I braid inside/outside, over/under, turn hand to complete knot. So turn crossing 2 backhand lines!

Great video! My question is this, other than trial and error, is there a method to know how many wraps you need, to cover the item you are working on? My concern is that while I may be able to guess at it, after the knot is tightened and shrunk down, it will be too small and won't cover as desired. Then I would have to untie the knot and start over, adding a loop and hope for the best. Very frustrating. Again, thanks for sharing all your knowledge and any and all help is much appreciated.
@mikkosnellman
@mikkosnellman 6 жыл бұрын
In my opinion it is easiest if you keep record of your previous projects, otherwise an experienced guess is the only way to go.
@maximk2903

Also faced with this problem. I think that wnen you tie it with leather cord you can use special formula to get the width of the cord. But we may reverse the formula for fixed width and get the amount of bight. The Bernie Formula: 1) Length of knot foundation / Diameter of knot foundation = A 2) Diameter of knot foundation x 2.25 = B 3) B / Number of bights = C 4) C x A = Width of strand(s)

....come on fellas....If you keep encouraging him...he is just going to continue being a Big showoff on more of his videos.....( as always...poetry in motion)...Alright I'm finally fed up with using my Turks head form boards (jigs & pegs) many, Many different sizes from near credit card 60 mm x 75 mm for micro or 1 mm cord up to a 12 cm x 30 cm board for 5 to 27 bytes using 3mm cord. they all have been lovingly finished differently using boiled lens-seed oil to wet candy looking industrial Red enamel paint....Lately I have been entertaining the thought ...I may have more time invested in not learning the Knot tied on hand (understanding it) ...why?...knot...comfortable with new things...fear of failure...nope knot that...I'm an expert on failure...having failed at "Everything"in life so far....What is it.....Just pure unadulterated Laziness...to the point where I am appalled....embarrassed even.....Enough!....I am watching your tutorial once more.... but with some rope in my hands this time ....And if I fail...it's because of your video has failed and I hope _You!_ can live with_That!_....(wish me luck...I'm going in).....signed tony@nutsforknots.com
