Explain that. He is simply a district court judge who was assigned this case. Just for you info, when the judge was first assigned to the case, and the Trump lawyers first filed a recusal request months ago, judge Merchan even took the extra steps to actually go before a official judicial ethics review board and ask them of their opinion. The examined all the facts, and they all said there was no conflict or reason for recusal.

That's not what New York rules state. She has to be involved in some facet of the case. The trial exists independent of her. That she works for a company that raises money for Democratic candidates, and that the candidates state that Trump is under trial, isn't a facet of the case. She's not involved in any facet of the case against Michael Cohen.

Wrong. Trump's support continues to shrink, Much smaller than when he lost in 2020. Now, he is losing about 20% of register votes to someone not even running anymore. Many of these are Republicans who say they will vote for Biden, instead of Trump. Also, as much as 30% of Republicans say they will not vote for Trump if he has even one felony conviction (which looks likely now). That even includes 5% of MAGA rally goers. Dems have always outnumbered Republicans. How can Trump win when millions of Republican will also vote for Biden (my whole family included).

In the U.S., an overly ambitious prosecutor will dig into all available codes and through some shaky legal theory he or she will gather dozens of criminal counts to make sure a jury finds it nearly impossible to dismiss them all. Thus a conviction is secured beforehand, isn't this totalitarian?

The judge has been an embarrassment from the beginning and his only regret is that the case is not going well against Trump and far too many for comfort have criticized his behavior, decisions and failing to recuse himself. But that’s the only regret - he will continue to provide as much room for a conviction as possible while his daughter rakes in the money and influence as the one who got Trump. Absolutely disgusting. Here’s the real threat to democracy.

It is happening everywhere, go make a legal mistake and an overly ambitious prosecutor will use shake legal theories, as in this trial, to build a criminal case against you. Then piling up dubious criminal counts to secure a conviction, as no jury is likely to dismiss all criminal counts out of 27 of them or so.
