I don’t think KZfaq compression does it justice. It’s hard to tell any difference when viewing from a small iPhone screen. But I’m intrigued by this!

@@Nobody-Nowhere actually it involves a bit of AI magic too, so only sharpening wouldn't get you here. but i agree, he should grab an a7r and compare the a7r - a7s - a7s enhanced it would totally show why this won't really makes it viable . but its a nice tool if you want to do some anti aliasing i guess :D

Good timing for this video. I made a decision before this video to get the A7Siii. I realized that majority of my photographs do not really need more than 12 Meg. I have other cameras for when I need more but it is comforting to know that I can "black magic" the 12 Meg images. :p

This is great! I would much rather have a 12mp than a 50mp, and this could make the difference for the rare occasion that I needed some pixels. I actually have the a7iii right now... but if I were to jump to the a7siii this makes me worry less.

Thank You! I sold A7r4 for A7s3 yesterday and was feeling that I made huge trade off with photo res. But your video gave me hope! I tried this feature now on many 12mpx pics - product, portrait, wildlife - it’s amazing! No need for bigger sensor with this technology! F***^^^ amazing! Details in wildcat furr looks like from A7r... Thanks! Wouldn’t know it without your channel. Cheers!

well most people who buy a7siii are video shooters and secondly photographers, so i think priority of this camera is for video quality then a picture quality and in the end even if you took some pictures you more likely use for social media then a print, so 12mpx is more then enough for instagram or facebook, and if you want to print now you can get high resolution option by this new Photoshop option. This is just perfect

How does this compare to native megapixels? For example the a7siii’s 12mp super sized to 48mp vs the Sony a1’s 50mp’s straight out of camera. Would there be a super noticeable difference between 50 real mega pixels and 12 to 48 mega pixels? Btw love the videos, keep up the good work!

Curious too... Probably. Same size sensor one has bigger pixels one has smaller pixels but the rest is computational

I have to try this out! Also resolution and prints are relative to viewing distance. The reason the bigger images look sharper is because they are actually applying sharpness. Still is awesome.

Interesting that the file from the uprez’d 12mp to 48mp file is 167mb, when an uncompressed file from my a7riv is 120mb

I do see a massive difference, but you need to watch in 4k on a 4k screen, but the picture of the camera enhanced looks so much sharper, this made the A7S iii an A7r IV low light light beast and close to a cinema camera at the same time, epic.

Brilliant! Topaz Labs has Gigapixel AI and Video Enhance AI if you're not married to Adobe. Either way, it makes the A7Siii a more viable hybrid camera because we know it's a low light beast.

I'm surprised how well it works! And now i don't need any other software to do this! To my eyes Adobe version of AI enhancer is more natural looking than competitors. I love my A7S, and most of the time 12mp is enough for me, but it's cool to have the tool that will bring more resolution to my A7S shots.

My preferred solution is the Topaz AI suite incl DeNoise and Gigapixel depending on need. Batch operation brilliant for sports photo processing.

This was very interesting; I didn't know that this could be done. Would you then simply continue to edit the photo in Photoshop? If you wanted to edit in Lightroom, would you simply just export the photos, and open them up in Lightroom as usual? Are the new files converted into JPEG files or do they remain as RAW files? Thanks.

One reason I would never buy an A7Siii as I’m a video and photo guy. You may have just solved the answer to that, not a long term solution but saves taking two camera bodies with you for both video and photo. Thanks for the new trick and great videos!

One thing I have noticed is Adobe software seems to be the only image editing software that reads the Enhanced DNG file, or am I missing something? I use the enhance feature to double the width & height of my original FujiFilm RAW file and then want to run it through either Capture 1 or DxO PhotoLab because I really like their noise reduction components better than what Adobe seems to be able to do but once I am in either of these two pieces of software, they don't seem to honour the larger file dimensions. Is it just me or are others finding this as well.

12mp is actually more than enough for most of our pictures and it keeps the files small. Sometimes I even wonder if some « high resolution» cameras don’t trick the MP increase by software.

I only saw slight differences in one photo. Yt compression and using a privacy screen on my phone surely won’t help. But that’s very interesting. I’m going to give it a go

hmmm nope...mine doesn't work! I get an error message saying "Unsupported Hardware, Enhance Details requires a graphics card with Metal Support" < what ever that means? I am running a 2017 iMac...anyone else get this?

Literally you can do upscale like this in Capture One without any fancy enhance and have pretty good results without AI

Promising technology but we're not yet there. It only works well on higher contrast areas - the rest it ignores. If you Google AI you'll learn it doesn't exist which is a good thing. It's a bit before your time but do you know of '2001: A Space Odyssey '? That was AI. Upscaling is simply software following instructions which is the only thing computers can do.

I'm following your directions perfectly but then having trouble importing the enhanced DNG file into Lightroom??

dont think Lightroom has full support for it yet

@@chrisbrockhurst Right, I know it can't do the super resolution. But after saving the DNG file in Camera Raw/ Photoshop, I can't import that same file into Lightroom. Seems weird. Thought I was doing something wrong.

Yeh I tried it and it doesn’t work either. I think Lightroom needs to receive an update to read that specific dng super Resolution file. It’s like when a new camera comes out and software can’t read it (my guess anyway!)

It would probably take forever.... but I wonder how it would look on frames from a video... maybe not too long... since video resolution is way smaller... I'm gonna have to try it. I just wonder if it will get all warpy wonky since each frame is interpreted separately.
