Here, we, go! This is a real quick demonstration showing you how to paint beautiful, simple, marble textured bases. You can use this for bases, dioramas, armor panels, or really anything else you want! It's so simple and can make your models stand out in minutes.
These can be used for DnD, Warhammer, 40K, Kings of War, etc. The beautiful thing about marble bases is that they can exist in any environment or time period.
Feel free to put any questions or comments in and Ill get back to you.

You can do a bit of masking or you could try putting one in the freezer for an hour and then gently trying to pop the feet off the base. Getting the glue really cold can cause it to be brittle enough to break between the feet and base.

@OriginPainting
@OriginPainting Жыл бұрын
Thanks! The copper was the only one that I needed to thin down. The others were thin enough to run through the airbrush. One thing you want to avoid is getting it too thin or it will spiderweb out when it hits the base and ruin the pattern from the wet wipe.

Do you let the paint dry at all, or just whip the wipe straight off? Loving how this looks but having trouble getting it looking as good 😅

I take it off right away. Do make sure your wipe is dry and you have it right against the base. Also, multiple light passes come out better than one thick coat as that may bleed under the fibers.

Sorry, I have one more question.... So... I have custom bases that I had made for my Custodes... they are a cathedral mosaic type, which would be amazing for this effect...the only problem is, there are LOTS of "grout" groove areas.... do you have any suggestions on how to fill those groove areas in? I know you line yours, but i feel like maybe using a wash and wiping down the smooth surface after, letting the wash sit in the grooves might be the way I have to go. Just asking, because I trust you, I love this video!
@OriginPainting
@OriginPainting 2 жыл бұрын
It's my pleasure, love talking about this. I'd use a gloss coat to seal the base, could be a spray can or airbrushed. Then you can do exactly what you're saying, mix up a thicker more concentrated wash and use a brush to drag it along the cracks. After giving it a couple minutes to semi set you can come in with a damp q tip and get all the raised areas around the crack. Alternately, if it's a ton of lines you can run the wash across the entire surface and then use a cloth to clean all the flat raised sections.

No problem at all, I'm glad to talk shop. Mostly because it's what I've had good success with before. I have had a lot of bad white's and this one performs really well. As for ones that look like marble, I think that any can do it, but it helps to very the color just slightly and add a gloss coat over top to make it look polished.

You want to spray it and remove the wipe before the paint had a chance to dry. If it dries it'll bins the fibers to the base. Wipe brands may also make a difference.

unpopular opinion: i don't like basing, hear me out. i feel like a beautiful base is like a miniature diorama, it tells a story and paints a broader picture of the unit and its history and looks incredible displayed on shelves, giving the entire army a unified look. BUT; it really destroys any immersion i feel when playing a game when the based of the models are in stark contrast to the battle mat/ arena. units with beautiful fluffy green grass while battling upon a dusty dry red field is off putting to me. i feel like clear acrylic would be ideal, allowing us to see the ground under the unit nut baring that i feel like bases should be more abstract. TL:DR this is my new favorite way to make bases for any army and i'm going to go crazy with it lol
@OriginPainting

Not so unpopular... i do like not over decorated bases either, or those too big, because i like miniatures to play, not to expose in a shelf. For this reason, brown sand, some little rocks and... enough for me. BUT sometimes i love overdecorated bases in some models, mainly in those thematic as the ones included en some boargames (marvel united, for example) and the easy-to-build range from GW. In this moment, some paint styles as this one of the marble, can ve very helpful ^_^
