I have what my hairdresser calls 1b kinky hair. It's really thick and short. I usually just get box braid or corn extensions, but I don't have any clue about hair or even my hair.

Although I adore Ms. Massey I feel that they do not show all curl types the woman she is using as her model to me has a somewhat loose curl pattern and I don't consider it kinky. If I however tried this with my own curly hair I feel it would not work as well because my curls are much tighter than that. I love my curls and I learned to do that because of Ms. Massey's book but sometimes I want a girl with my hair type to be shown.

She clearly has no clue what kinky hair is and probably has no idea how to deal with actual kinky textured hair. As a hairstylist she should possess an array of knowledge on different hair types. Hence why black women will soley entrust their hair to another black woman. White hairstylists have a basic, limited skillset when it comes to hair other than their's, whereas as black hairdressers have no problem handling all hair types. (Not a mass generalisation but it is fact in most cases)

So how often do you do this? Every day? Every 2 days? Once a week? If infrequently, how should I wear my hair at night?

if it's REAL kinky hair you can *not* run your fingers through it. at ALL. i should know. my hair is actually kinky, and running your fingers through it will frizz the curls out instantly. patting the hair too much will frizz it out as well and create a haze. this model's hair is simply curly. not kinky curly. if you want to see what actual kinky curly hair looks like, take a look at my videos, and you'll see what kinky curly hair looks like from wet to dry.
