@@Cyntaria don't matter if there is another way. he's showing us the way he's showing us. when you show your friend around town when he/she comes to visit you don't explain that there are multiple ways to get to the destination. you simply say this is the way

@@Maradnuscorrect, but if your friend says “oh damn, i’ve always gotten here from that way” you don’t tell your friend “well, you’ve been going the wrong way, so we’re going this way.” both ways are equally valid, just because someone is showing you their way of doing something doesn’t mean you can’t mention that other ways exist. it’s like when someone at a restaurant tells you chopsticks are required when there’s other utensils on the table, they might be what’s expected or traditional but they aren’t genuinely the only option.

its not possible to create enviroment reflections using this method so it would look out of place

@@user-wp7qobro did you even read what he said? Gold is a shiny object. Which means it reflects lights and will kinda act as a mirror but its not possible to reflect original background inside the gold statue hence it’ll look out of place

@@ankitpandey24feb You can literally rasterize the gold layer and keep the original background. As the original image already has the shadows baked in (just curved), it should fit right in back with the og background?

@@SAIWFY Not about the shadows, they're talking about the _reflections_ which would not be correct or easy to do in a believable way with that complex of a background, as gold is a shiny and _reflective_ surface

Because it’s obscure. The whole point of photoshop is freedom at the cost of a learning curve. If they were to add a shortcut for this random feature that many are seldom or never going to use then they would have to add a lot more, defeating the entire purpose of creativity

There would be like several thousands of effects, mostly unfit for the majority of images. The point is, PS is like a musical instrument, it needs practice and understanding to master it.

Yeah, I also detect a few areas but for a quick effect is kinda useful.

You can fine tune it by masking just the area and edit the zigzags just for it You can do it in certain areas, you can use references as well for additional accuracy

@@giggitygiggitygigism I do sometimes give step by step guides but I guess I haven't really considered making video tutorials. Maybe I should. I realize that you're likely saying that sarcastically as in "Alright, but I don't see you making anything better" Mind you, for the best effect, you'll want a subject that is black and white and lit from pretty much only one light source. The video tutorial doesn't state it, but that's going to impact the visual quality a lot. Next step you'll add a gradient map. You can start with what you assume to be gold colors. But if needed, you can get a picture on google and pick the colors from there. I recommend to pay good attention to what the colors of gold are if you're going to do this more than once, so you can skip this step after your tenth time. Place the gold colors in the gradient map and make a point to create a bunch of keys close to your main colors. Now shuffle them around and pay attention to create nice transitions and how your image is changing. It's possible to really fine tune it this way. It is technically more work, but the potential for better results is also greater, since you're not bound to transition through the entire spectrum whenever you go light to dark or vice versa. The benefit becomes more obvious the more different colors and color variations you're adding.

It looks okay for a quick edit and may work okay for some subjects, however there is not quick fix to make something gold and make it appear realistic.

If you're doing a black-white-black-white as well and adding color to it with a gradient map. It's actually the same.
