Hi there friends!
So here are some tips to turn an American accent to a British one! When I say a British accent of course I mean the Modern Received Pronunciation accent that mainly is in use in the South of England. I am teaching my accent as that's obviously my expertise! :-)
Thank you for your patience on the Friday letters - they will come back just as soon as my workload calms down a bit - things are still pretty hectic in the life of Katharine!
By the way - sorry - "Darcey" the character from Pride and Prejudice is actually spelt "Darcy" - my apologies :-)
Hit the subscribe button so you get notified when I release my weekly Friday videos! I would so appreciate that as it really supports my new and growing channel :-) lately I have had lots of new subscribers so HI!! WELCOME!
Stay confident, positive & happy!

The "T" sound is used in the American accent in some cases like "Safety" "difficulty" and "faculty" but not in "city" or "opportunity", for example.

Hello Katharine , your reading aloud text in this video is really helping me in practicing pronunciation. Your American accent sounds cute , like an American news presenter , and like the American girls I taught some medical jargon in class. (so my accent turned more American / Dutch in time)

@@englishwithkatharine Yeah , I know , you normally speak very British , like people speak from the British Royal Family , King Charles , Roger Moore and Pride and Prejudice actors / actresses . But I mean your imitation in this particular youtube video of the American pronunciation was actually pretty good , I think.

There's so much beautiful music in your voice and it sounds so tender and lovely! Would you please tell us about the right way of speaking "o" sound, like in the words and constructions: so, no, home, don't, snow, flow, open, only and so on. Where's the difference of how to pronounce the "o" sound in different cases? And how to pronounce it properly to sound more natural? Thank you so much if you could pay attention to this.☺️💐

American accent doesn't always turn "T" into "D". For example, you said satin as "sadden", but we pronounce it like "sat-in", instead of British "sat-tin". Where the British pronounce the "T" twice, we just do it once in the first syllable. Where there are actually two "T"s, like flatten, is when Americans make the "D" sound.

In Malaysia, Malaysian English language standard is based to British English for grammar, writing and pronunciation but have some adaptation to local languages and cultures. Our local people speak English by direct translation from local languages such as Malay, Chinese, Indian and others. We call it as "Manglish" for local communication. We are never speak English in British accent accept for formal speaking or to communicate with foreigners. Currently, Manglish accent are slightly influenced by American accent.
