Man, this was super cool to watch. There were parts where I was excited, with my heart thumping just to see the result!! This is wicked - love the end result. It'll take a few more weeks in quarantine for me to go through the effort though.. well done

Wow, such a great video!! I am using it with my middle school photography classes. The negative to positive part really helped make sense of the whole photographic process.

You can also buy two uncut lenses for glasses, fi=5cm. Put them in a tube. In the middle you can install iris made of black paper. Inside paint black. Best results as far as image field is concern, and quality.Very cheap.

So simple, jet cool ideas and astonishing sharp the tree - at least in the video.-)The simple inverting from negative to positive was something what I haven't been shown in school back in the 80s :-)

Awesome video it took me way back into time when I used to have a bathroom darkroom and actually accidentally had a camera obscura on my first home studio. I will try this at home soon and will let you know the results. Great way to teach the basics of photography to this new generation of digital photographers. Cheers!!!

Hi Brendan that was an excellent demonstration. When you were trying the different lenses I was thinking about how would it be to try the Abelardo Morell approach to correct the up side down orientation of the image. I guess he uses a prism of some sort. I hope you could unveil some information about that strategy. Thanks for sharing this very useful ideas.

Thanks for this! Been keeping me busy during the quarantine in NY. Quick question about the contact print, does it help sharpness to expose for longer to the iPhone light? I was able to get a decent result by using the my light table and quickly flashing the negative/photo paper, but there is a noticeable drop in sharpness. Also, I'm assuming having the Negative print wet is a crucial step?

Love your work. Now to incorporate a periscope to see over the neighbours house out to the bay. How could you invert the image for an actual room view of the ocean?

How do You get a sharp picture appear on the opposite wall in the room? So that some people could be included in the photo, sitting or standing there.

Brendan, I want to turn a room in my high school into a camera obscura, for a project in my photography class. I've already blacked out the windows in the room, and I've been successful at making the room a pinhole camera, but I want my students to be able to see what's projected inside more clearly. I've used a magnifying glass lens that is 3 inches in diameter, but the screen the image is projected on has to be within 6-8 inches of the lens in order for it to to be focused. The large magnifying glass lens you ended up using for your photos seemed to have a great focal length. I want a greater focal length, as well. What is the diameter of that magnifying glass? If I can find one with that diameter, I feel our class project will be more successful and engaging. Thanks, in advance!

A little nitpicking, but finding cardboard pieces big enough to cover a window is anything but easy. I tried to find some a couple of years ago (but not for making a camera obscura), and asked in so many stores that couldn't give it to me that I finally gave up.
