Apparently the writer of this beautiful song, Helen Lemme, was blind when she wrote it, along with the lyrics. She said it came wholesale to her mind without pre thought or changes, a pure gift from His Spirit. As a sad side note, her husband many years before had divorced her when she became blind. Praise the Lord that He was her true Bridegroom, and ours as well!!

I had the same experience, 15 years ago when my husband of 31 years said quits to our marriage. This song has given me strength and comfort during the process of a painful event in my life. Looking back, I realized that by focusing my eyes, my thoughts upon Jesus, He gave me the power to forgive and to move on without regret and resentment.

I was a child when I heard this hymn. Then, when the service finished, I asked to talk with the pastor. He took my hand and brought me to his office. When we were in, he prayed for me. That day I received Jesus as my savior and Lord.

I was saved and born again by Jesus Christ in 2020. It's now 2024 and at times I get tempted to get a college degree and have lots of friends and experiences while I'm still young but it's so true when the lyrics say "the things of earth grow strangely dim" when I'm close with Jesus, all these worldly things become insignificant to me and I just want to live humbly and be with Jesus forever. He is my love, my peace, my refuge

This was the hymn i heard playing in my head while i walked down the stairs the morning after i gave my life to Christ. And it was true, the world grew dim as i pondered the beauty of Jesus taking my sin on that cross. Priceless

I cannot believe as long as i have been going to church i never heard this song. I went to sleep the other night listening to Christian music and woke a couple of hours later as it came on. It hit me so deep in my soul it changed me. I got to meditating on the line Look Full in His wonderful face. I just tried to imagine looking in the face of the One who spoke the universe in to existence. HALLELUJAH!!!!! PRAISE GOD!!!!!

Whenever I look at my face without make up Nails with no polish No jewelry Contented with an honest job with little salary,,,I believe in these lyrics. The things of these earth have grown strangely dim since I found the true Christ. I am no longer attracted to the worldly standards of wealth and success. I just want to grow closer with God, to know His ways, to love Him and serve Him. Today on Good Friday, I sit quietly and listening to this song. In the midst of the turmoil going on in this Nation, my eyes I turn upon Jesus and I'm reminded of the glorious Hope we have today! I praise and thank you JESUS! Thank you for loving me!❤ This is a great opportunity if you don't know Jesus to turn to HIM and be saved, you will have life and peace today. Please pray for my beloved granddaughter who is in so much need of turning her eyes upon Jesus. Sadly spoilt by her father she is so lacking in appreciation of all her mother does for her and it breaks my heart to see my beloved daughter, her mother ache in her heart in so many ways because of what is going on in this regard. May Our Heavenly Father, in the name of Our Lord Jesus Christ, draw this now twenty year old girl, with such great potential, draw her to Himself so that she will turn her eyes upon Jesus and be gloriously saved. Part of the problem is that sadly her father, apart from completely spoiling her has fallen into the deception of Pelagious, no belief in original sin and all else that goes with that. Please also pray for our Roman Catholic people, out of which God has wonderously saved us and also for many of our Protestant people in wrongly believe in the teaching of infant baptism. Five days ago I placed a tearful comment about this wonderful song. I'm now back in hospital for the Third time since 15 August. I am feeling God blessings as I lay listening to this song 💕 to you all who can feel his presence.

… looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith … (Hebrews 12:2). Born in 1863 in England, Helen Lemmel’s pastor father moved the family to the US state of Wisconsin when she was 12. From an early age, her parents were keenly aware of her profound singing voice, and in America she earned a reputation for her talent. She traveled through the American mid-west holding concerts. She moved to Germany in 1907 to refine her singing ability, and there met and married a wealthy European gentleman. After 4 years in Europe, as the fires of World War One smoldered, Helen returned to the US, touring with a mixture of her own patriotic songs and familiar hymns. At the pinnacle of fame tragedy struck. Helen went blind and her husband abandoned her, leaving her financially destitute. When asked by her friends how she was doing, Helen’s Christian faith led her to usually reply, I am fine in the things that count. While standing on a street corner in 1918, she was handed a small Christian tract written by Lilias Trotter, a missionary woman to Africa. A single line in the tract gripped her heart: So then turn your eyes upon Him, look full into His face and you will find that the things of earth will acquire a strange new dimness. Helen later wrote, I stood still and singing in my soul and spirit was the chorus, with no one conscious moment of putting word to word to make thyme or note to note to make melody. Her heart-song become the best known hymn of Helen Lemmel, Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus. Helen later published a book for children called “Story of Bible” and over 500 hymns. In 1961, at the age of 97, still active in her small Baptist church in Seattle, Washington, Helen died materially impoverished, but spiritually wealthy in Christ Jesus, her Saviour. O soul, are you weary and troubled? No light in the darkness you see? There’s a light for a look at the Saviour, And life more abundant and free! Turn your eyes upon Jesus, Look full in His wonderful face, And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, In the light of His glory and grace.

The words are so powerful. The chorus can calm and take us to Jesus immediately after starting to sing. The verses are so clear in their message. The tune is gentle and restful. Just right for the words. May we all remember to look to Jesus for everything, big or small and put Him first in our lives. May you be richly blessed as you follow Him. He loves you like no other. You are so precious to Him.

Going through a particularly tough time, I was Weeping in prayer. I've been saved and know well the flesh Weeping or otherwise...I heard the Lord ask me ..are you looking at your troubles and crying or at me??? Look upon Him..the solution...not upon the troubles...His light is enough...

I'm moved to tears instantly, every time I hear this. It's so anointed. Been a long time since I first sang this as a child, when we still sang hymns in church. Until now, I've only ever heard the chorus. Beautiful. Thank you ~ God bless you all!

Thinking of a dear friend who will be slipping into eternity within a very short time. As sad as those of us left behind will be, this song brings peace and happiness to me because she will literally be turning her eyes upon Jesus and looking into His face. The things of Earth will go dim as He opens His arms to her and wraps her in His love, glory, and grace. What rejoicing there will be in Heaven!

This song has to be in our minds all the time. We tend to look away and distract ourselves pretty much. It reminds us of how our walk should be with our Lord Jesus Christ. Oh sin has no more dominion! Wow! Deep! If we really believe it, it is like that! Lets not dristract ourselves with so many things of this world, for this is not our home. Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in his wonderful face and things in earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace. Such a truth! All christians can relate to this! The more we look at his glory and grace, his face, the less we love the things of this world!

I need this hymn. Going through another hard time with my wife. I need to overcome my anger and sadness and frustration. I need Jesus with the Holy Spirit to help me because I can't do it on my own. I need to forgive her but I need to ask for forgiveness for being angry and not behaving in a Christ like manner and be forgiving and understanding

I am praying for you and your wife. I am praying for your complete healing and for your joy to return.
