The idea here I am trying to convey is that in jazz you can pretty much play any notes
you like on top the chords.
So in this video the chords you will hear on the guitar never change.
Always, Bb G7 C-7 F7.
I VI7 ii- V7
Over these never changing diatonic
turnaround chords you will hear lines that trace the harmony of the following
incredibly important progressions
that are ubiqitous in jazz.
ex1. Diatonic - Bb G-7 C-7 F7.
ex2. VI7 chord - Bb G7 C-7 F7.
ex3. II7 chord - Bb G7 C7 F7.
ex4. biii diminished 7 - Bb Dbdim7 C-7 F7.
ex5. #i diminished 7- Bb Bo7 C-7 F7.
ex6. biii minor 7 - D-7 Db-7 C-7 F7
ex7. Altered chord - Bb Bo7 C-7 F7altered
ex8. Sub V7 applied - Bb Bo7 C-7 B7
Many of the lines you will hear
are not correct theoretically
when played over the
diatonic turnaround chords as they contain chromatic jazzy notes that create dissonances.
But they still work!
And this still blows my mind!
As it
1) proves that you can play supposedly wrong notes
2) frees you from any diatonic shackles you may have.
