It's called wood widdling. I made my daughter some custom drum sticks when she was little. It was such a satisfying feeling. There is so much you can do with that tool.

My father was a very skilled carpenter and craftsman. He built a coffee table out of chorion. It had green and white inlays on top for a checker/checker board. This video reminded me of that. I am now in my 30s and my father passed about 12 years ago. I wish I still had that table. Unfortunately it was smashed to pieces when our home was robbed. Anyway just felt like sharing. I am a huge fan of your work. And it's very inspirational to see how much you've grown. One day, if not already.. you will definitely be the who's who of customization!

I lost my grandpa about a year ago to cancer and he still had many years ahead of him but God called him home a little earlier than we thought. keep playing those chess games with him man, im only 15 and i would love to do stuff like that with my gpa if he was still here. 🙏❤

this is beautiful. IMO adding weight to the chess pieces would make them much more satisfying to play with. Something like tungsten or lead weights hidden in the bottom underneath the felt.

8:43. That was so wholesome. Lovely to see. I remember making paper chess. I knotted the pieces then wrote their names on them,I measured the checkers on a larger paper,then I thought my junior brother how to play. Now he's better than me

Wow man, I made a chess board a couple of summers back as well. I stained mine and always wished that I had done the checker board with different types of wood. You executed perfectly. The pieces are miraculous as well.

When chessmakers make wooden pieces, they use a rectangle of tool steel with the profile of the piece cut out of it instead of a chisel, that's how they make lots of identical pieces quickly
