As an S5iix and BMCC 6k owner i could say that both are Amazing but they have different strengths and weaknesses, S5iix in a few words is: Great autofocus, lightweight beast and very good low light capabilities. And BMCC 6k is: Best Cinematic Look, 6k 3:2 Braw up to 48fps and 6k 2.40:1 Braw up to 60fps.

Love the concept. I have an S1+BMCC6k. While I enjoy having options, particularly when working with different clients, I really enjoy the boundaries put in place by the 6k. I shoot like THIS and work around THOSE limitations, and the results come out great. Sure, I can't use it for certain applications (e.g. vlogging or unsupported run and gun), but using it as intended offers incredible results. Absolutely love this build and will be looking forward to seeing more footage.

The Panasonic gives you extra work on post but I bet you could match it to the BM6k. Honestly, I would love to watch that. Recently switched to Lumix from BM, the Pyxis didn't do it for me. @lfcruzsierra
@lfcruzsierra Ай бұрын
@@Sethmotley You could just get the False Color V-Log LUT. The BM menu is good, but there's nothing amazing about it. It's simple, it's easy, and that's about it. If I'm really honest with you, it's mostly thanks to it being so light in features. Cramp it up with stuff like you get on Panasonic or Sony cams, and it will lose most of its benefits. Yeah, two CF cards are great, and so is having IBIS. I have nothing against Black Magic; I love mine, and the image is indeed better, but unless all you do is traditional set productions, I would gladly pick the S5II lineup for 70%-80% of the bulk work.
@Sethmotley

@@lfcruzsierra I have both camera BMD and LUMIX and I think is quite silly to compare them to be frank. A Camera is just like a tool. You don’t use a hammer if you want to screw something in and you don’t use a screwdriver if you want a hammer something, the Pyxis is not a swiss army knife camera they are meant for cinematographers to make movies,documentary and so on. Whatever your project calls for that’s the camera you use.
@ywmedia
@ywmedia Ай бұрын
@@Sethmotley absolutely. someone needs to evaluate what their needs are. For the majority of people (especially starting out), I would recommend an S5II or IIx over a blackmagic cam. The Panasonic can be used for "content creation" which sometimes means "hybrid shooting" for some people. But it can also be built up to be a proper "cinema camera" (i.e. shutter angle, waveform, XLR add-on, external battery, even BRAW). Will it do it as well as the Pyxis? Debatable, but most would probably say no. However, the Pyxis can't go the other way and be turned into a hybrid camera. It's impossible. No built-in evf, fixed screen, and while it can take stills, nobody would use it for that dedicated purpose. Most people would need to "graduate" into a proper cinema camera like the Pyxis. In other words, they're getting those kinds of jobs or they have the free time to dedicate to filmmaking. Other people without that luxury could use the S5II for a variety of purposes. Photo, video, social, even a vacation/family camera. Luckily, since both are L-mount, they can be used alongside each other.
@lfcruzsierra
@lfcruzsierra Ай бұрын
@@Sethmotley I haven't disputed that, I'm just praising the versatility of the Lumix as an user an owner of both...having a camera that can work well on a movie, documentarie and also works for run and gun style, photography, media content...make me want to pick the Black Magic less and less but still the image is king. That's still my point, regardless of what i think of the Pyxis. I just expected more.
@nicolapaoli4561

It's not just about numbers... Blackmagic color science give a look that is NOT that of BRAW obtained from Panasonic. I know because I have to match Panasonic and BM quite often. BM is less clean and more cinematic (and I love it). About continuous AF... with DJI you can nowadays achieve it. With the advantage of being able to use it on whatever lens you want, vintage, anamorphic etc. Instead than being forced to use just the usual photo AF lenses. This camera mod is extremely welcome, but it doesn't mean you can use a Panasonic thinking to have a BM in your hands, because it isn't like that.

I've been using my Lumix S5IIX for everything. I've decided to ditch the BMD Video assist for a Hollyland Mars M1 Enhanced. The biggest reason being that the HDMI latency when recording RAW is bad, so much so that it's difficult to follow your subject when your monitor is off by about a second. Then if you want to wirelessly transmit that image to the Director or Focus puller, you need a separate transmitter that will add additional latency making focus pulling essentially pointless. The Mars M1 has a built in transmitter and when you disable RAW recording on the camera, HDMI latency is mitigated. Yes RAW is the best codec for projects, but the ProRes footage from the Lumix S5IIX is very rich, has loads of detail and on a proper computer can be graded well. So honestly, what is this coming down to? If you want BRAW, get a BMD camera.

the Pyxis is just a, box form-factor, bmp4k with a larger sensor(FF), that it can barley handle. the S5iix is a way better value. building it out is fine, or can be used straight out the box. 3,200 for the Pyxsis, as a starting point is not a good deal. You can't use the bmp 4k or 6k cameras to crop in (windowing) without getting more noticeable noise. You have to record at the full range of any of their camera's sensor and resize the image later in a video editor. Don't down scale (windowing) in camera, unless noisy image is ok.

As a professional sound mixer with over 8 years of industry experience in the biggest market in America, a camera without a standardized time code input cannot be used on professional narrative sets or anything that isn’t mos. I don’t understand why people keep taking mirrorless cams and trying to make them “cinema”. A used ursa or red Komodo isn’t that much more expensive. And if you’re just a hobbyist, then why are you so hellbent on making your camera look “cinema” just enjoy it.
@thesavagefilmmaker
@thesavagefilmmaker Ай бұрын
As a professional filmmaker for near 20 years I have to disagree. On big productions absolutely there are some things that are always expected. But the world of indie projects and smaller productions is full of these types of cameras as b, c and even A cams and that is only going to increase in the future as budgets get smaller and the industry is required to do more with less. I live in a world where I may see an Arri on set or an Fx3 and to be fair if these cams get you in striking distance of ‘pro’ cinema cameras with a ‘cinema’ look, of course everyone will want that. If you think these cams are for hobbyists only you’re seriously misjudging the evolving landscape of film. Old guard mentality.
@ethanrhanielle2474
@ethanrhanielle2474 Ай бұрын
@@thesavagefilmmaker you haven’t been the sound mixer who gets called by the editor asking why there’s no timecode when they shot on an fx3 that requires a usb dongle for timecode and the acs had no room to rig that usb dongle and now the editor has to sync manually for 30 days worth of footage. A Panasonic with HDMI timecode is even worse. You really expect an editor to clap sync a 30 day show? My point isn’t that these cameras are hobbyist cams. More so than just using the right camera for the job instead of rigging something out for something it wasn’t meant to do. If you needed to put all these things on your mirrorless to service your production, just use something that’s purpose made so you don’t make people like me have a harder time. It just passes along the stress to different people instead of using the correct tool. I’m an IA card carrying PSM in LA. I’m not just a filmmaker. I see this shit on a daily basis. I’m not saying this to bash you, but more to encourage others to use the tools that can best serve EVERYONE and not just the picture. I have no doubt your mirrorless produces professional picture. Shit I’m a believer in lighting over anything. But understand it’s not just about the picture. Remember my department keeps you in sync and we give u the fancy smart slate the least we’d expect is seamless timecode inputs.

Hard disagree on that one, when you change the shape you change the balance, and that lets you attach things like you would an actual larger cinema camera. @poti732

@@thesavagefilmmaker sure , but a much more pricey way as well. Buying a V mount plate , a rod mount and 2 cheese plates that attach on thr rods or on the side of the cage will come out much cheaper for a beginner. ( deepends ofc on what you want from your camera because some mirorrless have different much needed features than the komodo , this is just an example) Box is easier to rig , no arguing over that, but the price on a 3D printed accessory that does not do anything more than a regular D tap splitter , it does not have a voltage meter either like the good quality splitters is crazy.
