Why do we even buy handled tools? It's so easy to turn our own and they would be custom fit too. Thank you for sharing.👍👍Have a great Holiday and stay safe.🙂🙂

I just watched your tool handle video. You did a fantastic job on this. Another well done and greatly appreciated video. I really appreciate your style of presentation. I did a handle extension for my Laguna 1216. Man oh Man did that help me out. I turn sitting in my wheelchair and anything that makes tasks easier or safer for me is excellent. You are a solid mentor and I am grateful. TS

Another way to drive the tool into the handle is to bang the handle down hard on something solid. That way, you don't risk damaging the tool tip. Concrete floor works fine.

@@MikePeaceWoodturning Mike, the hook tool you use for doing the female threads does need a longer handle, correct? Cheers, Tom

@@tomcoker9882 probably 10-12 inches for a scraper. Perhaps a little less for a recess tool.

Mike.. tractor supply, look for collets near the 3pt hitch stuff. They are steel collets used to stop shafts from slipping off the face of a bearings. They have a set screw and make dandy replacements for pipe couplings. And best of all makes your tools quick connect.. I am on my third 1inch Carter and son skew on one handle using this setup. Best is they come in all sizes.

Great point about not needing epoxy or glue. The wedging pressure of the wood fibers is more than enough, plus you can remove the handle without totally destroying it. Merry Christmas!!!

Mike would an easier way to change the profile of the handle have been to insert the steel end through the chuck and tighten down on the Farrel and bring up tail stock suport. Turn to shape and finish? A lot less steps. But I do understand wanting different handle. Thanks for your tips
@MikePeaceWoodturning

I think the tools too wide to fit the Morse taper. And the ash a bit coarse for the smaller features I wanted.

As always, a great video. The only thing that I do differently than you is to drill the hole for the tool tang before I turn the tenon. With the cone center in the hole, I'm guaranteed that the tenon will be concentric with the hole.

Hi Mike, just finished watching your thread chasing video and I wondered how long it would be before you replaced those Sorby handles. 😃 Anyway thanks for another very useful video and one I've personally needed help with for a while. PS, I'd love to have that cardboard "Mike" to keep me company at the lathe. 😄

I do have a question. On a video you did you made a round knob for a handle of sorts. Perhaps for a knock out rod? You used a texturing tool. Then did a veegroove on each side then burned a line. What texturing or chatter tool did you use? Last! You used a copper wire to burn the grove or line. Can you use different gauge of wires to burn lines? I was going to buy a burn wire kit. But at $50 bucks….. can I save $$ and use copper wire? Thank you. TS
@MikePeaceWoodturning
@MikePeaceWoodturning 10 ай бұрын
Yes, a knockout bar. Texturing done with a Sorby spiraling tool. Guitar strings make the best burn wires. Know any guitarists?
