I managed to build a working x-ray tube at home! With only a few materials from ebay.

The fact that you managed to pull this off at home as a DIY project is amazing dude, cool video!

Actually got back into it after along break and pulled off some more cool stuff :3 And I'll build a better x ray tube sometime soon aswell.

Sorry I missed your video! Those seals look fantastic. I bet you could get away with a few millimeters of tungsten with seals like that. Thank you very much for the shout out.

interesting, and you provided a lot of details, that solution of melting the glass over the tungsten wire is genius, i may have to try that, i really wish to have a legit x-ray tube, even cooler if DIY... but... the point is that i need a bunch of materials and tools LOL, i just made some discharge tubes to light up on a coil but without the pinch, it has been fairly easy tho

diy vacuum tube is always interesting!But i think your diy xray tube most yelid soft xray not the hard xray.And soft xray is more dangerous!

Yeah, I can only put 30-40kv on the tube and the anode is copper. I should build a new one with tungsten and better electrode seperation. I also need to build a wehnelt cylinder around the filament. The tube overall is pretty primitive.

how well does this X-ray tube ionize the air in a straight beam? you should be able to test it using a simple resistance meter and 2 pieces of aluminium foil. one around the tube which acts as a shield so it only goes in one beam, the other at a slight distance where you end the beam. the X-rays should ionize the air, and so the first one shielding it will get touched by a high concentration of ionized air which would give it a better electrical connection to the air. the one at the end should be hit by the beam and so have a good connection as well, using those 2 points and measuring their resistance to eachother you can estimate the ionization in the air. if you take more measurements at different distances this would give you a estimation of how strong it would be at different distances. this might not sound interesting on first sight but if you have strong enough ionization you could use it as a ionization radio antenna/ ionizatio radio amplifier where you use the ionization to generate a virtual antenna at a higher height which can result in a much greater range. when done right this can also be used to form a close to full wave antenna. or even more interesting, a while ago I used such a principle to controll the direction of Lightning/high voltage. I don't know if that X-ray generator generates enough radiotion to get the desired conductivity since I used something stronger in generating this conductivity. however I addes something to make it less efficient to make the lightning more visible since I use a high voltage converter from a car with slight changes for the lightning. so I especiall would like to see you do/try that same thing but with just a X-ray tube, it would be really cool if you could controll the high voltage lightning/spark with just a x-ray tube, which would also be a lot safer than what I did to make that lightning gun/laser. another fun thing to do with it is to generate extrem high wattage lasers for cheap, it is easy to generate high voltage at high wattages, by heavily ionizing the air to generate a plasma beam following the radiation and then giving it some inperections by turning it of for short times(or using a weaker generator) you get a bright ray following the plasma beam because it conducts well, at the end add something transparant with a high conductivity, in most cases a metal ring will work due to inperfections, you could see it as milions of transparant micro sight sources where they are all in a straight beam which makes it so that in one direction they will be much brighter(kind of like those very old UV lasers but a lot better and more efficient and easy in this case). to test it btw, make sure one side of the high voltage is earth grounded, the other side to the ionization/plasma ray. when using high power the air will act as a conductor, but while testing it shoot the beam at the ground/earth to get a great connection. or even at a wire towards the ground of the HV if you use a really weak one. if your ionization and conductivity are to high the lightning might become mostly invisible or fully invisible to the eye, that is why I added something to add imperfections to it to reduce the conductivity(a shutter like thing) because I wanted it to still look like a lightning instead of a invisible ray which electrocutes things. the only thing you need for the fun version is to make the path of the beam more conductive than the path to the ground using the normal air and ofcource enough conduction compare to the distance to generate a big arc to see the beam, luckily once the arc starts that will generate a lot of plasma as well to maintain itself largely. and be careful, an make sure to shield all other sides of the tube well otherwise the high voltage might go different ways as well and you might instead of a beam get some kind of big corona discharge around it. in case you decide to try it and succeed, can't wait to see a more user friendly and user safe lightning laser.

Interesting, you are incorporating the titanium getter into the existing tube elements instead of being in a seperate chamber of the tube. I thought it had to be heated to sputtering temp to work as a getter.

Very interesting and pretty awesome too. Question, is it possible to build a powerful X-rays tubes by using radioactive material as a cathode or anodes? Just wondering
@thesciencefurry
@thesciencefurry 2 жыл бұрын
That's not how it works. It gets more powerful with 1. denser anode material 2. higher voltage. If you mean higher x ray energy as more powerful.
@anthonyrickardii6198
@anthonyrickardii6198 2 жыл бұрын
@@thesciencefurry thank you. So basically if you have a higher denser material like hafnium or beryllium it increases. Is that correct?
