The total weight of a 130 square foot heavy duty roll of aluminum foil is 743.5 grams. I put 472.3 grams in the crucible to attempt to melt. Watch to see what happens!

Nice man good work !! what amazes me is the size of it for just one roll, i cannot even imagine the quantities that have been extracted from the ground to be able to supply global demand.

This was really cool to watch man, the termite was badass, I'm gonna have to learn more about that stuff. I do have a couple of suggestions for you: • In the future when you're doing things like this, don't wear what you wore in this video. The gloves were a good call, but the athletic shorts +basketball shoes combo is a no-go for any number of reasons. Even if it's 100°F outside, if youre forging/casting then at the very least you need to be wearing long pants, workboots, gloves, and safety glasses. • Instead of just scraping the ingot on the driveway, what you can do is get a container big enough to set your ingot in, throw in a handful of sand and a little water, and then just rub the ingot back and forth. It works if youve got absolutely no other options, I originally learned the concept from a YT video where they were talking about methods used in ancient times to cut stone and drill holes. But honestly you can get a cheap file and/or a pack of sandpaper (look for a special type of sandpaper called emery cloth, its specifically for metal) and a rubber sanding block from Walmart for a few bucks. If you have trouble finding emery cloth, auto parts stores sell it for sure. You don't even need power tools for this particular task honestly.

Yes I definitely should of had more safety stuff, especially with thermite. Also, now I got an angle grinder and files, so no more pain with the concrete.

What I figured out is the cheap $1.50 at the store is better because less plastic coating on it and it’s the same as the $3 but the slightly less thin making it better if ur going for aluminum (at least for the store I get it from

i guess just proof of concept that u could melt and cast aluminum foil with thermite. yes you are right buying blocks of aluminum is a lot cheaper (that or soda cans is what ill be using in the future)

I am more interested in the irony of using thermite as a heat source to make an aluminum ingot from foil.

@defuncy91
@defuncy91 2 жыл бұрын
from what i can guess, the red powder is red iron oxide and the white is just iron powder.
@isaiahspinney6113
@isaiahspinney6113 2 жыл бұрын
That is thermite, 3 parts iron oxide to 1 part aluminum powder (by weight). When this burns it goes nuts, it burns somewhere upwards of 4000 degrees Fahrenheit
