Covid-19 travel restrictions have meant I've been unable to go out to the Farmhouse in France recently so I had to bring the workshop to me! We found this garage after searching Gumtree high and low for 2 weeks and it was the best deal out there... you would not believe the prices in London. Stage 1 was cleaning years of dirt and dust, repainting, installing some extra sockets and getting the lighting just right! Hope you enjoy, the video and plans for the work table will be coming in a week so make sure you're subscribed! :)

4:24 some very simple interesting old Alarm system. Power supply in lower box (still powered), main unit in upper box, three cables going up from main unit probably for control panel(key switch), siren(white box outside above door?) and door/window switch) something is probably missing because two cut cables on other wall.

Ups, 05:22 that finger on bare-metal part of screwdriver when tightening phase (hopefully not live wire, ATM as it should be), but anyway .. got me chilly freeze touch in around a spine.

As an electrician, this pains me, no earth sleeving, no sealed boxes (should really use metal clad sockets for a workshop installation) and running a radial off of a 32a mcb with (what looks like 2.5mm twin and earth) is against regulations in the UK. You may also want to verify the circuit coming in, you may end up overloading it. I understand budgets, but you have to be safe.

Also clipping twin and earth directly to the wall at low height in a workshop environment is very iffy. Wants running in 20mm conduit ideally.

I agree with everything except the metal clad sockets. Strong plastic ones meant for outdoor installations are what you want for a workshop.

Looks nice, though you probably should've worn a mask or eye protection. You dusted up quite a lot of dust, and that paint didn't look new, so could've contained lead.

No earth sleeves, No earth to the back box, No conduit and should have run a ring main not radial.

The radial is fine, I agree back boxes 100% need to be earthed, and earth sleeved, also didn't do any tests, and I'm not sure where he isolated the main power source.

Exhaust Fan for ventilation, a boom box (music player+Radio) and 2 PC (Creative T20 II used) Speakers..from gumtree for good soft music to have in the workshop.

This could form the start of a series where plumbers, electricians, carpenters and builders all do each others work. At the end, when there are doors which touch the floor AND let in drafts, pipes that leak, walls that bow and electrical fittings that feel "fizzy" when touched, everyone agrees to just shut the fuck up.

youve voided your insurace doing this btw, even if theres a non eletrical fire n thats left in the wreckage your gonna get bummed. you should of at the very least used trunking the hide the wires and grommets on the consumer unit

Very true. No concideration for the people that live above. Radials on a 32 amp MCB. Best fit a smoke detectors with that electrical system 😂

Well... electric connections and especially fuseboxes should be mounted on a wooden backplate, just like they were when you found them... In particular in a humid environment like this garage is. And the sockets are for mounting IN a wall. Now you leave the metal housing in the open, a real NO NO! Now, if ever something happens and things get set on (short-circuit) fire, you will NEVER get a penny from the insurance (if you have one...) But worse: the owner of the garage is also not getting any and he will hold you responsable! And woops, before you know you are bankrupt... Take this advice from a 66 yo crafstman who knows the ins and outs.

We left it as it’s quite a nice patina, would be a bit dull if everything was white! And the lamps were basically free!!! Might change them if they’re not up to the job
