This is the kind of decoration that I think is worthwhile. You see videos where people are putting random spheres in a bowl on the table, or just grabbing some cool looking thing and putting it on a shelf, and I think that’s so silly. Here, you have a table with a map that has personal meaning, and I assume the photographs are photographs of your plane. To me, if you’re gonna have clutter and knickknacks, they should be things that are part of your history, places you’ve been things you’ve done. Very cool.

The real crazy part is how expensive a bowl full of balls for the kitchen table can be (the cost is a feature for some folks).

Having a friend come over who also was a pilot while you're making a plane-oriented table is not _ironic,_ that's just a _coincidence._ As an example to make it true irony, she would have to have already bought a map-table as a surprise gift for you.

(I did not know she was a mechanic until I was fiddling with the clutch cable routing in my bike and her mother visited). Seeing me struggling, she said "I will get Angela to help you!." Thing was it broke because I got the routing wrong!. (Heck, no KZfaq at the time to see how that actually works....)

Back in the 1970s, when my sister worked in a boat yard in the Bahamas, and I were but a spotty adolescent, she used a product called "Steel Flex" for boat stuff (interiors, decks, etc) and also did some interesting photo and map mounting with the stuff. I haven't seen those pieces in years and years, but your project reminds me of those days....

Have you ever seen an extra large globe that sets in a cradle. (I have seen them in libraries.) You can move the globe in any orientation. I always thought it would be really cool to apply high altitude enroute charts to the surface and then you could measure great circle routes between anywhere on the planet. 🌎

This makes me wish I still had my old sectionals. I used them as a kind of wallpaper in my den, but that meant they were left behind when we moved (though I will admit the big sectional wall was pretty amazing while I had it). I love this idea, and you can take it with you if you ever move, so you get to keep all those memories. Brilliant!

Your more advanced videos are what inspired me to make a foamcore/glass sleeping situation for my car to use on longer road trips. Sooo much lighter than the plywood that most DIY builds use. AND, I started working with composites again, after putting them in the "too hard" bucket when I was a kid. All I needed was teachers (you, easy composites, and AJ Hartman Aero) to give me the pointers and techniques to avoid the mistakes I was making back then.

8:40 - want to do something like this but don't have any friends? Roll it up on a tube, set the corners down correctly and hope for the best. 11:46 - To anyone wondering about the amount of epoxy needed on a project. 100cm x 100cm = 1 square meter and each 1 millimeter of thickness needs 1 liter of epoxy to cover it which means to have about a 4 millimeter thickness an American gallon is needed to cover that much. Let's say that this video's project is 70x200cm give or take, and the layer thickness is between 3 to 4 millimeters, that would mean 4.2 to 5.4 liters of liquid plastic needed for the project.

Ironing the map is a great idea, it would have made mine look better. I started with Super 77 adhesive and switched to OG rubber cement. But I wasn't epoxying over it either.
