Honestly, outside the public embarrassment. I don't think Ming is a bad mother at all. She just really cares about her daughter and is willing to go to extreme lengths to protect her. She just doesn't realise the damage she does to her daughter's life by going to said extreme lengths.

Unpopular opinion, but honestly, I don't think Ming is a terrible mom. I mean, you can't say she's not coming from a place of love, even when it seems like she's being overbearing. A lot of parents nowadays don't seem to care enough these days, if at all. You can honestly tell that Ming just wants what's best for Mei, even if it seems like she isn't being fair. Hey, sometimes parents have to make the tough decisions for their kids. Can it be unfair sometimes? Sure. But it's still up to them to make that call. Because if something happens, it's on their shoulders, no one else's. They have to make choices based on the experience and hindsight that their kids don't have yet, and to a kid it can seem unfair when it actually comes from a place of love and wisdom. I mean, any parent can just say no and shut down any arguments from their kids, but Ming took the time to give her reasons, and honestly I thought they were good reasons. Personally, I don't have kids yet, but I'm not sure I'd be comfortable with a 13 year old going off to a concert at night unsupervised, panda or no. Can it seem unfair? Yeah, of course! But parents should be allowed to make the choices for their kids that they think is best. That's just how being a parent is, and I'm not sure vilifying parents for making hard decisions is such a good idea. Just my thoughts on the matter.

Parents should stop their kids from going out too late or going out. Yes, I understand there’s kidnappings and other stuff that they have to protect their children from. “But parents should be allowed to make the choices for their kids that they THINK is best.” Sometimes, parents should allow their kids to make their own choices. How do you expect the kid to be independent if they’re relying on their parents’ insight ALL the time??? What is the kid going to do when they’re an adult? Are they just going to ask for their parents’ permission every time they’re going to do something??? Look, I get that parent’s choices for kids can be for protection. But the thing is, Mei-Mei has been perfect for her mother ALL the time. She deserves a reward, an ACTUAL reward. Which is to let her do her passion (going to the concert). Yes, it’s “just a concert”, but it’s more than that. She gets to spend it with her friends and have FUN. What’s wrong with being reckless a little? What’s wrong with having fun? Mei-Mei was miserable trying to be perfect for her mom, she wasn’t happy, she wasn’t having fun. She’s a growing teenager and should be allowed to make her own choices period. Parents should be kind of protective, not overprotective to the point where the relationship is BREAKING. In fact overprotective parents are just as toxic as parents who don’t care AT ALL. Mei-Mei’s relationship with her mom was good, but at the same time, it was fragile. Her mom does make her good food and provides a roof over her head, but her mom didn’t allow her daughter to be a teenager. She embarrassed her daughter in front of all her classmates. She made a huge mess at the concert arena and she basically almost killed the band members by letting them hang for long. She made fun of Mei-Mei’s interests/hobbies. She has her good sides, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that she also has her bad sides too. This is why their relationship was breaking. Just my opinion, but I wanted to share it with you.

This really does show that trauma when not addressed keeps continuing in new ways. There is no way around it. Ming had the best intentions, you can see it if you were to only focus on her perspective. But it’s not her perspective it’s meis, and that’s truly the Beauty of these movies. It’s unintentional harm, Ming causes great distress to meis life but she also made it her personal goal to have a good relationship with mei. Problem with that was she didn’t have any outside source show her that what she was going would do more damage in the end. But she didn’t want to loose that relationship. I think to a degree the panda itself had a lot to do with the emotions kept inside. And why kings was so huge was because she had so many emotions kept behind her perfect appearance. The bigger the panda the bigger the rift between relationships.
@galaxykitty0w0642 жыл бұрын
God I could go into this so much. Ming wanted to watch mei like a hawk to see the signs. But from how we saw mei wake up, just as the panda, I think she was going off her personal experience. She was watching for her own signs, because that’s all she knew. But she raised a smart sneaky kid with the watch of a hawk parenting. Meis was unexpected, small but fast. An extension to mei, but Ming’s was giant, destructive and dangerous. And that just represented what he held underneath. Just think of every scene, where ming watches her daughter hold in the panda, she is not only nervous for the surrounding and her daughter but for what her relationship with her could end up as.

I honestly don’t think Ming is all that bad. We see that Mei and her mom have a close relationship before the movie starts. I personally interpreted the strain in their relationship coming more from Mei reaching an age where you start to form and identity outside of your family and home, and Ming being unprepared and scared that her daughter was fully pulling away, rather than generational trauma. Although you could argue the generational trauma is how badly this transition was handled previously.

Ming is not a good mother. She refused to listen to Mei or else those awful public situations wouldn't have happened. A character in a graphic novel series about a babysitting club had an overprotective FATHER who physically treated her like a baby by making her wear pigtail braids and making her dress and feel like she was 5 years old. When I 1st read the book I was like: " Dude I know that you don't want your daughter to grow up but that's PART of human life and NATURE."

I’m starting to think that Mei’s friends the way they helped Mei control the red panda Ming should know so that all Mei’s hiding secrets and lying would be long gone if she was just honest to her Ming she wouldn’t have gone crazy and destroyed the sky dome and Mei and her friends would finally see 4*TOWN in person! And Mei and her friends would have the best day of her life! Does anyone agree?? Well I’m not saying she should disobey her mom I mean is that Mei would not lie!

Unrelated to Ming, I love Turning Red just for the animation style, especially in scenes where you wouldn’t really expect it from a Pixar film For example - where we first see Jin and he’s cooking, the cutting board having the water droplets And then when Mei is on her bed after her drawing montage of Devin and she’s trying not to look at the notebook, before looking down quickly and back up, then her eyes becoming simple dots out of fear
