Vic and Josh gives a big update on the 1,200 gallon lagoon tank after one year since our last update. The mangrove, corals, and fish has all grown drastically. Josh also reveals that he plans on removing the sump which would turn this aquarium into the biggest all in one tank ever.

Or hear me out... You could sell frags at a bigger size then a finger nail and you wouldn't have so many frags to sell.

Your absolutely right we need to do better!! But I'm thinking the point was missed it's not a problem having to many frags in fact that is the root of our livelihood. However if we make too many of one type at a time it disrupts the flow of variety and limits the selection at any point in time. Commercial farming is not the same as making frags from one or two display tanks. But your point is well noted we need to try harder to produce a better quality product.

Really glad I got to see this tank a little over a month ago before all the trimming comes, it looks good on video but it looks even better in person, it’s also much bigger in person. I have began planning a lagoon tank like this for my sunroom, hoping to harvest the light of the sun and mainly have fish and some cheaper, fast growing corals. Not nearly as big as this. Maybe in the 300-400 gallon range

It's the star on the Mangrove which really makes this work :) Such an incredible tank. I'm glad you still kept some monit cap's after taking so many out, still a beautiful coral. And the size of some of those colonies are really getting impressive. Your mika stylo colony keeps catching my eye. Just a beautful tank.

That's amazing growth on the coral in that tank at what alot of people would consider low par. Makes me think that spread and even lighting throughout an aquarium is more important than high par! 🤔

This is true but we are also taking far less from the reefs and I think sustainably speaking this is a far better alternative. Our objective is to produce a better quality frag, you aren't wrong at all.

I'm curious what the issue is with the sump that you want to remove it. Is it just a necessity to integrate the HydroTubes? Also, regarding the mangrove pests, I wonder if you could use diatomaceous earth to dust the leaves. It should be reef safe since people used to use diatom filters.
@jdearel1
@jdearel1 6 ай бұрын
I'm sure diatom powder is relatively inert. But breaking off branches is super easy. The sump is huge and taking up space that we need. And I I want to test my theories. I feel like it's unnecessary.

Why don't you put in a couple types of sea urchins to eat some of the coraline algae.. and while you are at it some copapods and amoapapods too

Also ewhat about an algae refugium for the build out make that a display too?
@jdearel1
@jdearel1 6 ай бұрын
We don't ever want to get rid of coraline it Is a very desired component in our tanks, and rarely poses a problem. The tank is loaded down with so much microfauna that it would not make any sense to do so. The macropharyngdon wrasses have big fat bellies that is a good enough gauge for us.
@jdearel1
@jdearel1 6 ай бұрын
For the refugium, we just don't use them in our model. The furthest we go in that direction is the big mangrove in this tank, that should count for something.

Do you run all those lights at 100% intensity?
@jdearel1
@jdearel1 6 ай бұрын
The blue photo period point intensities are at 100% I think the white photoperiod point intensity is somewhere around 65%. but the white channels along with the red and green run all run at 25% or under to achieve this color blend. So it's really not all that bright.
@jameswithers3066
@jameswithers3066 6 ай бұрын
@@jdearel1 that's amazing really, it shows we run our lights too high. And that they can do well with a lot less light. I run my xr15 g5 blue at 65% ab+ for 5 hours then all blue at 75% point intensity on my little 40 gallon that's only 8 inches away from the water surface.

This tang for it's majority of time with us swam back and forth hugging the glass front panel on our 293. It was some sort of stress action. It irritated it's eye for years with no aggression from the other fish. It never entirely healed after 4 years now in this tank.

They all have 5" perimeter braces made it of .75" glass. They are also layered with a 3" perimeter brace under that. And they are only 30" tall, they feel like they are built like a bomb shelter.
