Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare
/ favourite-worst-nightmare
open.spotify.com/album/1XkGOR...
Favourite Worst Nightmare is the second studio album by English rock band Arctic Monkeys, released on 23 April 2007 by Domino Recording Company. Recorded in east London's Miloco Studios with producers James Ford and Mike Crossey, the album was preceded by the release of "Brianstorm" on 2 April 2007. This is the band's first album with bassist Nick O'Malley, replacing their previous bassist Andy Nicholson, who left the band before the North America tour of the band's debut studio album.
In comparison to the band's debut album Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, the album is considered more ambitious, with ambient sounds and expanded drum rhythms being introduced. Like Arctic Monkey's debut, Favourite Worst Nightmare was a widespread critical success, with critics highlighting the band's new emotional depth and Turner's matured songwriting. NME and Uncut ranked it the second-best album of 2007, while Dutch publication OOR named it the best of 2007. In retrospect, the album is considered the start of the band's change of sound with each of their albums after their debut.
In its first week of release, the album sold over 227,000 copies, going straight to number one in the UK Albums Chart. "Brianstorm" and "Fluorescent Adolescent" were also both hits on the UK Singles Chart, with the former reaching number two on the chart. In the United States, the album debuted at number seven on the Billboard 200, selling around 44,000 copies in its first week. The album has since gone 3× platinum in the UK. It was nominated for the 2007 Mercury Prize and won Best British Album at the 2008 BRIT Awards.

I remember that when I first discovered it, I listened to it a lot. I also went on a small weekend trip with my now girlfriend and 505 came up a bunch on the AUX. Some of the other ones like fluorescent adolescent also came up. We also lodged at a hotel and all of us, including some other friends, played 505. It was epic.

Somehow the USA has a habit of overlooking good artists or albums. The first albums of the Arctic Monkeys. That for me is the Arctic Monkeys and then there is the rest. their progression as a band is super interesting. they transition from album to album similarly how they did between songs like fluorescent and the only ones who know in this album. humbug is like an evolution of that maturity. whereas their first album is all asngst & fuck around energy. this being a perfect blend of the two. they were the biggest band in uk but couldn’t get the U.S base to catch on - but during their tour with the black keys they played a new song & the u.s crowds ate it up. they decided to make an entire album around that song, & boom. AM was born. also, IF you are gonna do another i’d say do them in order from first to last. whatever people say i am that’s what i’m not being my favorite.

That was a great way your dad summed up 505. It really does sound like a departure from their early sound and the beginning of a new, mature sound, which we hear in Humbug (as well as in Alex's side project The Last Shadow Puppets, which came between Favourite Worst Nightmare and Humbug). I love everything they've done, I've loved seeing how they've evolved. They're easily my favourite band of this century. I don't think they have a bad album in their catalogue.
