I watched the best buck of my life feed along a hillside. I had him in my scope for 30 min straight, but I enjoyed the moment so much, I let him walk. I felt this one in my soul.

To one person, it's a hunting song. To another, it's about life changes. To another, it's about all the changes and that comfortable place in the middle of all the turmoil. This may be the greatest narrative he's written.

This song really hits hard. The ruts that I’ve been in I genuinely just had to ride out. There’s nothing you can do but ride it out. Even after all the turmoil and hardship you deal with you will come back to the mountains and they’re all still standing there. There are things in life that are never changing and steadfast. This song really conveys that and makes you feel the riding out of the rut you have to go through.

This song takes me to the woods in my mind and the melody soothes my soul guys. I am a song writer and fellow picker as well as a hunter. For me the song is about this man's relationship with the wild wilderness and where it began. With dual meaning on all of it . The other side being his relationship with liquor coexisting with his hunting and all parts of his life. And the new beginning to return to the mountains that are still there yet changed as he has with the absence of liquor. Rising to hunt the rut and rising from the rut of something that has felt like a part of who u are, to have the strength and courage to lose that part of u and continue on without alcohol. Things feel and look different yet he stands to face both of the ruts ,takeing either for what they are worth to him . And that is big ,making that man a giant to me and he deserves a mountain of respect !

Just wondering what he was hunting with... if he let the Elk pass and just lived there in the moment and then hunted back towards camp n got enough grouse to make a meal.. elk usually you have a high powered rifle, grouse usually a shotgun...or maybe they were bow hunting...
