@@MASA-ARRI Shit, I still have Turok 1 and 2 for my N64 and they still work. But here's the kicker - I found out they released these games for PC using the GLIDE API for 3dfx cards, so since I have old gaming PCs running Windows 95 and 98, I play these WITH KEYBOARD AND MOUSE! WAY better control scheme for this game and the soundtrack is still amazing.

The music in this game is phenomenal, it made the game seem much more epic and next-generation back in 1998. As a kid, I usually sat in an area with no enemies just to hear the music, even for studying for school. I can still hear the seaguls in this track.

@@LITTLE1994 Actually Perfect Dark was more detailed in missions and scope, but yes the levels in Turok 2 were epic, huge and complicated. Lair of the Blind Ones especially.

To me, the thing that made this game feel so next-gen was the gore and animations. I couldn't believe my eyes when I first saw this game as a kid. The monsters all have different death animations depending on where and how you kill them. The death animations in this game put many modern games to shame.

@@joelbenitez1790 Can't go back to the original N64 version, it always ran like cr*p. Even the original PC port wasn't that good to begin with. The 2017 Nightdive remaster plays well but it also negates all and every difficulty the game originally had.

The drive of this piece and the sense of urgency it creates is incredible. Keeps you on edge constantly. There's no time limit to find the kids or the totem, but it damn well feels like there was, and combined with all the fires and ruins and enemies it really hammers home the feeling that you really need to get a move on if you want to accomplish your mission.

The sense of urgency !! That's exactly the type of energy this theme gives off. You can play this through a busy day while in the city, running errands and it fits perfectly. This is why I look into some of these old, gaming soundtracks just like movie scores. It's a drastic change and feel compared to listening to just musical artists that are signed to a label. I don't listen to music the way I would as a teen, I hear it according to my troubles, struggle and emotions that I may be going through. Regards from Los Angeles 🤝

The ambient noises like the seagulls, distant gunfire and cries of despair really add to the sense of location and given circumstances. Goldeneye was great, but Turok 2 was next level in terms of controls, atmosphere, and AI.

@@pvtj0ckerdespite its limitations the N64 gave us shooters that changed the genre. Even with the Dualshock the PSOne really didn't get any FPS games save for a few, most notably Medal of Honor. Funny how the console with more limits got more FPS games that were so well refined.

Don't forget that Nintendo had a much more powerful hardware than it's main competitor. The only big limitation was the size of those cartridges.

Most Psx and N64 use samples to create music like this or Resident Evil for example, the difference is that the N64 has to process the music on its CPU or CoProcessor RPC whilst the Psx had a dedicated sound chip, thats why N64 games had to prioritize between better peformance or better sound resulting in Sound losing the battle most of the time.

My favorite theme from the game. Such an impression this game left on me when I was literally 4 years old. This theme is what made me fall in love with music. I’m 23 now and still listen to this soundtrack every few months. The soundtrack makes this game and I can’t thank you enough.

I just wonder how can this be ahead of it's time, what does it even mean for you, often I read that about music and never really known why people say that (probably for the reason the person simply likes the song). It's not something completely different and never heard of like.. I don't know, King Crimson or Michael Jackson, Frank Zappa it's not the beginning of a new era/kind of music etc. Those guys were beyond music of that time. So the question remains : Why is this ahead of music in 1998. I'm not trying to be an asshole, I'm just curious about your opinion and how you see that beyond music of the time. This track is great and all, for me it's good music from from a video game that sounds like other games of the time nothing was reinvented there, just a great track!

This song has stuck with me so long, it is literally the best song for a level in any game, it just gives so much atmosphere and hype, like it's just so intense and catchy, it's perfect, all the music for this game is god tier, better than any game I've ever played hands down and that's not even a joke. I used to listen to this song and the lair of oblivion on repeat all throughout middle and high school while in class working, and I played the game since before I was in elementary school, I was very young playing this game, and it's been such a huge part of my childhood. I'm 20 now.

Two games stick out for me in the 90s, Goldeneye 64 and Turok 2 Seeds of Evil. While most people I know at the time were raving how great Goldeneye 64 was I was sat at home playing Turok 2, wiping out the dinosoid army while listening to a KILLER soundtrack! I much preferred being a warrior with a shotgun and a Tekbow watching them dinosoids explode , than some dude prancing about in a suit.

This game had atmosphere in spades! And it’ largely because of it’s fantastic musical score. No other opening level does it as well as Port of Adia. Not GoldenEye, not Perfect Dark, nothing! Thanks for your work Darren, you helped make my childhood!

When I first played turok 2, I Couldn't wait to find the shotgun, I always thought acclaim got the sound just right,it sounded brutal, the impact on the enemies, the way you could target certain body parts, the gore, all the weapons were great
