Thanks for the suggestion! I'm thinking I'll do Nemo's sometime next month :) For in-tank basking areas, the usual zoo med floating docks work well, you just have to watch out for it sinking under the weight of the turtle and make sure the turtle isn't biting the foam the dock is made of. Personally not a big fan of in tank filters...imo they take up too much room in the tank. Since you're already most likely going to be using an in-tank basking area, the tank will not be full to the top, so you won't have to worry about escapees and a lid probably isn't necessary. If you did that, you could still use a hang on tank power filter or a canister filter. If you absolutely need to use an internal filter, then I say just get a large whisper filter and put a filter media pad and some bio media (like ceramic rings, bio-balls, or even lava rocks) in it.

I wouldn't "suggest" it persay, because of the likelihood of the turtle eating them, but you can certainly try! Any snails you put in there have a high chance of being eaten...ramshorns are a favorite treat for mine :P

Hoku has hit about the 4 inch mark, and the filter is actually an aquaclear 70, so rated for a little bit more than double the tank size. I've also added additional bio media to maximize beneficial bacteria, and it's working well!

Bio media is just a term for the stuff you put in the filter that grows beneficial bacteria, like sponges, ceramic rings, bio balls, ect. :)

Hi Stacie! It depends on the species and gender of the two turtles you are thinking of, as well as the size of tank you are planning on keeping them. All too often, turtles will fight. In fact my own adoptee, Nemo, has actual damage to his shell as a result of being housed with another turtle. So, in short, no, I usually don't recommend putting two turtles together.
