It does work for smaller turtles. The trigger system on this trap can be adjusted for very light setting (smaller turtles and anything else that bumps it) or set heavy for catching only larger turtles.

Few people know that these old snappers are now thought to live from 150-200 years. This old guy probably lived through the civil war. Age estimates have been based mainly on the fact that they have been trapped and found to have been shot with muzzle loaders and th balls were scarred over under their shells.

Surprised you can trap turtles in any state without a tag on your trap. I have three tags required on mine in MN & mine are 6” square openings so the small fish and turtles can escape. Any trapped turtle can still stick his head up for air too. You should’ve made some delicious turtle soup! My favorite!

I asked a DEC official how to get rid of snapping turtles. I expected a long, drawn-out explanation. He just looked at me and said: "12 gauge slug". Yup. That'll do it.

Nice! I am afraid our snapper is going to get my dogs because they aren't respecting the turtle's space. I've been trying to trap with one of these traps but I might be using the wrong bait and might be putting the trap on the wrong location. I've got sardines, too.... I'm going to give this a try now!
