When the ponds are full of water you really don't see the true depths of how deep they really are. Once you drained out the water I was surprised. Looks great

I like Carey,s idea of adding crayfish to help cleaning up the poop. And to help keep your plants protected you need to cage them. Build wire cages around the plants so the turtles can't destroy them. Then you can enjoy your turtles and your plants. I've also caged a plant in my pond that a fish wouldn't leave alone.

Hey my dude, clean your filters in the pond water before you drain it, this keeps the bacteria balanced in the pool and prevents other maybe nit so useful bacteria from other water sources contaminating . Handy tip if you want to use it :)

After ten years of wanting my own pond, I've finally built my own turtle pond, you inspired me to build a backyard turtle pond, so far I have two red-eared sliders and a Midland painted turtle in it, I have another midland painted turtle for it, and an Eastern painted turtle for it.

I hope you see this even though it’s an older video. I know how passionate you are with your ponds. Ever thought of aquatic snails? For the algae however they have a large bio waste butttttt you can also do clams, shrimp, or crawfish. They will eat the bio waste. Might even cut your cleaning down to just once a year. They are so fun to watch as well!

Really enjoyed learning more about turtles, tortoises and terrapins.. thank u Keenan!! I made a general remark a while back and just said turtle on another channel. I got sarcastically corrected then the poster laughed with their comment. You should build one of those wood canopy coverings over one half and grow some vine type stuff on it to give them some shade and prevent the algae. Nice pond clean.

The poo water is now all over the driveway!! Probably could have hosed the pads in the dirt near plants. Good fertilizer and no gross mess on the concrete!

Kenan I've been watching and enjoying your show for quite some time now. I've noticed that you have quite a bit of cleanup and work to do at the camp. Did you ever think of purchasing a power washer or pressure washer. It would dramatically help out with your pond cleaning as well as other messes around the camp that need to desperately be power washed. Love the channel! Keep up the good work big bro.

🤔For plants you could try cattails, elephant ears or cyperur alternifolius to plant in that area the crocodile skull is in. They would help deter the turtles. 🤷🏽‍♂️ Maybe put some black lava or red rocks around them to persuade the turtle from going that... To go in the pond you could try some Java fern attached ( gel super glued ) to some rocks or wood. Floating some Hornwort would help shade the pond and soak up some of the nutrients in the water.

I'm not sure if you've tried it or not but what about homemade frozen food for the fish and turtles? Beef heart, fish, prawns and peas blended. Equal portions. I just made my next 12 months supply for $15.00.... freeze it in zip lock bags at whatever thickness you want. Plus you can add vitamins and minerals if you like. You'll notice a difference in there colors

As a cichlid keeper, i would ask if you have cichlid ponds with turtles or turtle ponds witch cichlids. Having seen you purchase Frontosa, I would be inclined to remove the turtles due to possible predation. I would also do more regular water changes and pad cleaning as a suggestion. Very cool environment.

You let all that brown gold run into the driveway!!! Next time clean the pads near some plants. They explode from all that nitrogen. Also, put the sump in a bucket with holes and you'll blend-tec less fish. ;p

Add the floating plant fast growing and it sucks up nitriates, Watersprite (aka Indian Fern) It should grow fast enough to outpace the turtles eating them. It self propiagtes from daughter plants that grow on its fronds.

You need to maintain or clean your filter mat/foam (mechanical filter) once every 3 - 4 months instead of once every 6 months or letting it clog up before cleaning it. When you don't maintain your mechanical filter regularly enough, those clogged media will slow down the flow of water and prevents fish waste from being properly removed into the filter chamber thereby causing excess algae growth or those thick muck that you see on the rocks or on the bottom of the pond. I also understand that you need to dose some chemical (i presume is bacteria) into the pond regularly? If it is so than it's better not to waste your money cos your filter and rocks should have enough bacteria to deal with the ammonia. Best of luck!

It is not called S(ch)megma it is called Mulm. Mulm is the waste from fish and other aquatic animals and from decaying plant and animal matter. it makes for great plant fertilizer. It can be added to compost to boost its nutrient load.
