The 100th anniversary of the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb is a good time for a reevaluation of the boy king. This lecture surveys recent research on Tutankhamun and presents a picture of him, not as a fragile pharaoh who walked on the side of his foot, but rather as possibly a teenaged warrior. This slide lecture also discusses the claim that Carter stole objects from the tomb. Using previously unpublished letters, we suggested that more objects were taken than was previously believed.
The lecture will conclude with a discussion of the legacy of the tomb and how its discovery changed the politics of Egypt, the antiquities laws, and even how museums function today.
