Running a gpu at 100% when gaming is totally normal and won't degrade it. Still keep an eye on temperatures.
@rene.a.m.983
@rene.a.m.983 4 жыл бұрын
Yes. If the gpu is not running at 100% i allways increase my graphic settings because then is something wrong. Better gpu is at 100% as cpu. If nothing is at 100% then is the game broken.
@InWeCome
@InWeCome 4 жыл бұрын
No one really needs to look at temps, the GPU will throttle back at high temps. Now that is not ideal but it will show in clock speed or FPS, not temperature. An older GPU that doesn't throttle back will simply turn off long before it overheats. Any hardware degrades faster at higher temps but this is nothing to worry about unless you run it 24/7, the biggest problems associated with high temperature are throttling and fan noise. It will also increase the CPU temp since the CPU is often located above the GPU, but most games are GPU-bound anyway.
@MrBillUp
@MrBillUp 4 жыл бұрын
All the research I have done confirms this. 100% usage is totally normal, and as it should be. If it's not pinned at 99% (Nvidia), the game is not optimised properly.

i think he said he doesn't want it running at 100% because you will get frame drops where as 90% makes you less likely to run into issues with the extra headspace
@InWeCome
@InWeCome 4 жыл бұрын
@@greenneck5396 As long as you are well above the maximum fps (refresh rate) and your frametime is good, you wont see any frame drops. But yeah if you right on the maximum, it might be wise to have some headroom. Games should include a proper benchmark so you can get it right even in the most taxing situations.

Hi Squirrel. Your tutorial series for MSFS is the most detailed and comprehensive set of videos to date. I am new to flight sims in general so am obviously new to MSFS and watched many of these videos to help me get started. Since becoming slightly more comfortable and a bit more familiar with MSFS, I have revisited the tutorial series often and have learned more each time. Obviously, my learning curve is very steep so having these videos available has amazingly helpful. BTW, as a new gamer (started gaming around January 2020 after building a new PC), I also got into ETS and ATS after following your series on those games. So now that I am hooked on these sims, I thank you again for a great series and for all your efforts.

Napoleonic S but his GPU is also not that hot. Peaking at like 60 Celsius. This means that his GPU is not running at it’s full capacity. It’s normal for your GPU to run at full capacity when doing something that’s hardware intensive. He said that only 60% of his GPU is being used so nvidia will have to release a new driver update to optimize their GPUs to run at 100% when using FS2020. Not to mention, he has a 1080p ultra wide monitor.

@@derickvo317 And then even now it was maxing out at 95-100% when he put it to ultra/higher settings..And so what if gpu is only running at 60-65 celsius? That just means gpus got good cooling, and it does as it's water-cooled. My air cooled triple fan never goes over 65 in any game so far, and I max everything out. There could be room for improvement with updated drivers tho, as with any new game when it comes out, and there probably will be one.

The fauna markers point out animals in the sim. (Giraffes, elephants, etc, which are modeled in certain areas of the world.) I don't know how common these are globally. But there are regions where they've included bears, flamingos, giraffes and elephants (and perhaps other wildlife). I'm hoping they'll add more - like whales, sharks, dolphins, etc. Some random deer on a remote landing strip would be pretty cool too, as long as you can shoo them off the runway with a low pass! Would be nice to have some insight on what must have been discussed on the beta/alpha forum about what is responsible for what. Meaning, which settings are GPU and which are CPU. FSX's downfall was it was primarily dependent on CPU (unless you used DX10 mode which never worked). P3d made major headway throughout their great efforts in both making it 64bit and giving more to the GPU. I don't sim much anymore (currently) but am an organization junkie so took massive amounts of notes over the years. These are my notes from P3d. I only post them to give an example of what I wish you beta privileged simmers would share. With the latest full NDA lift it would even be nice to have read only access to the beta forums. Anywho, here are my notes from P3d. I'm hoping this new platform gives even more to the GPU where it belongs. Leaving the CPU for what it should be doing. All of my notes are my notes, thus written by me and confirmed by me unless otherwise noted in parentheses. GPU heavy features: - Shadows - Dynamic Reflections - SSAA - Dynamic Lighting - 3D Water (water set to ultra) - New 3D rain/snow effects (set weather to storm theme to test). GPU Bound: Anything to do with shadows (cast, receive, distance, quality) gets handled exclusively by the GPU. The same with anti-aliasing and screen resolution. And also dynamic lighting and dynamic reflections. CPU Bound: Settings are water reflections, water detail level, texture resolutions (clouds, airports etc.), autogen density and drawing distance, scenery complexity, ai density, cloud draw distance.

firstly thanks for the video, it was awesome and helpful. i think you missed a trick or 2 with the graphics settings though, i think you will claw a good amount of FPS back by reducing the render scaling down to 80 percent maybe 90 if it starts looking soft but go with 80 and then hopefully if nvidia do good by us and drop a driver update around the release for this game with direct support we will be able to press alt f3 and that will bring up the nvidia freestyle filter options, going into that you will be able to apply the sharpening filter which is actually a good quality sharpening tool and then adjust this to what looks pleasing to you, it will help offset the softer look you end up with by reducing the scaling and get it looking pretty good but you will gain a good chunk of FPS back doing this with hopefully minimal impact on your visual experience. also i noticed you said about it not being a good idea to have the gpu running at 100 percent. this is actually the very best outcome and is ''ideal'' for gaming, if your gpu is less than 100 percent it almost always means it is waiting for frames to be delivered from the cpu or ram or your settings are too low and your hitting your monitors frame limit/vsync cut off, you want the gpu to deliver the frames as soon as possible, 97 to 100 percent is where you want to be with the gpu, it will do absolutely no harm at all provided your cooling is on point. if your trying to keep the gpu at 90 percent for fear of stress to the component your just leaving frames on the table and probably should have got the next gpu down. my 2080ti overclocks quite well, i can gain 9fps on average between stock and overclocking so if your hovering somewhere between 50fps and 60fps it might be worth applying an overclock to drag you even closer to that sweet spot of 60 but that is ofcourse on whoever reads this, do your research dont just push sliders for fun. thanks for the video, hopefully my comment is helpful rather than critical.

Could you possibly go into a little further about the rolling cache, i would like to do the same thing
@adriankoch964
@adriankoch964 4 жыл бұрын
1) Know how much space you have on all of your storage devices 2) Set the path to where you want to rolling cache on (if you use a dedicated SSD for FS2020 for example) 3) Put it as high as you want while leaving at least 20-40% remaining capacity (so the game can be updated, also SSD performance degrade when there are getting close to full. So never completely fill it up) For a frame of reference, Microsoft stated that the total world data is 2 Petabytes (2 million gigabytes). The largest consumer grade SSD currently is around 8 Terabytes (8000 Gigabytes), so if you'd spend a year circling the world at low altitude and in a tight enough pattern for the game to load all the details in, this is how much storage you'd want, if after this you'd never want the game to need to load in stuff from the internet. You will probably be completely fine with under 100GB, especially if you have fast (i.e. gigabit fiber) internet. If your internet is slow and you have rolling cache then the game will not stream in the highest quality assets from the internet on your first flyover of a fixed place, but maybe on your second flyover, since the game might have downloaded the terrain date in the background just after you had passed the area. If your internet is slow and you have no rolling cace,then the game will not stream in the highest quality assets from the internet on any flyover. If your internet is superfast, then the difference between a large cache or none is high quality stuff gets downloaded from the internet nearly as fast as it would be loaded from your SSD. First flyover might still have things popping in a bit later than later flyovers if the objects are stored in the cache.

Thanks for the explanation @@adriankoch964 I have a 250GB SSD dedicated to the rolling cache, with 232GB of usable storage, so I set my Cache at 230GB. I guess I should roll that back a bit? Maybe 200GB? As an aside, after I formatted the SSD, I created a folder and called it FS20 Cache. I guess this is correct as you cant write to the root of the SSD?
@adriankoch964
@adriankoch964 4 жыл бұрын
@@MrBillUp No idea about writing in the root, but it might be because of the permissions from windows store apps. Definitely leave ample space on the game containing disk for updates! If the game is 100-150gb, you should have ~25-50gb+20% of your total drive capacity left free. Same with the 20% on the cache disk. Aside from that, it should not matter too much. I've reduced my rolling cache to 50gb for now. After checking out a dozen of different cities and also logging around 400NM at lowish alitudes, the game had only downloaded a bit over a gigabyte. Less than expected :)

That's why 4k is currently out of the question without dropping render scale. He's effectively running 2 Full HD screens at the same time. If you have a single 1920x1080 panel, then you'll likely can run the same settings on a 2060 / 2060 Super. With a 1060, you'll be in medium territory, but as with other games detail tweaking can get you a fair bit of improvement in the areas that matter more for you. Especially other kind of vehicles, traffic and shadows are expensive to render and easily overlooked.
