Flat stranded knitting is difficult for some of us. I recently discovered a way to make it much easier: the Portuguese Purl. In this video I show my method.

This is brilliant. I like Marie Wallin’s design which many are done flat. You just solved my problem. Thank you for posting this hack!

Excellent demo, Joy! I’ll have to try the Portuguese knitting but I am concerned that my tension would be all over the place! I also have a Marie Wallin fair isle pattern that is knit flat and I was planning on converting to the round but I might consider flat if this is easier. Hmmm. Something to think about!

You definitely have to be careful with the tension. I only had to work a small portion of my sweater this way and I did not have any major issues with it.
