Looking forward to sharing this tutorial of how I have used Derwent Inktense Blocks to make my very own gorgeously coloured variegated yarn or thread to use for slow stitch projects.
I’m sure you could adapt the technique using other paints or dyes.
The thread I have used is secondhand crochet or perle thread in basic white so it is a very affordable way to end up with beautiful and unique threads.
Here’s what the Derwent Inktense site says regarding using on fabric which I assume also applies to thread: ‘To use on fabric, you do not need to put anything on the fabric beforehand. Simply apply the colour straight to the fabric and then dissolve the pigment with water. Inktense only becomes permanent if all colour is washed out fully and no remaining pencil/block/paint marks are left. Any remaining pencil marks will run. Any washing should be done by hand, without any detergent or washing powder and should be done in a cool temperature such as 86 degrees Fahrenheit.

I hope you enjoy this how to tutorial.
I look forward to chatting with you on the live chat during the premiere of this video.
Cheers,
Christine
