Oh awesome! Would that be the stove top etc? I tried that, VERY time consuming and I find the results more vibrant this way and easier to leave whote areas 💛🌼😊

I love the randomness of dying paper, too. We add a little control, but the part that happens out of our control is always a surprise. I like to do die cuts with the portions that aren't quite up to snuff. Or trim the edges where dyed water may have puddled a little too dark and use them in other areas, like color strips on envelopes. Have you ever scanned papers you really loved and played around with the sharpness or tint?
@sara-leearmstrong5009Ай бұрын
Hi 😊 I am an avid user of photoshop so yes I play around with digitals a lot, but 7sually with the opacity, chopping them up and layering them or adding a colour filter to adjust them to the colour I need 💛🌼🤗

Rust is an iron oxide so maybe that’s why it reacts with the coffee, bit like oxide inks I guess. Love the look you get! 😘😘😘 not super brainy just Google😂😂😂

Haha yes super brainy lol at least you got some relevant results from your search! I didn't 😆 thanks Sue 💛🌼😊

The papers are stunning! I've used a similar splash/spray/stencil method with Easter Egg dyes and with thinned-out acrylic paint, but haven't tried rust. I like how coffee + rust combine so you have the charcoal grey -- with the Easter Egg dyes I'd get some nice new shades with pink/yellow, red/blue, etc., but with acrylic paint I often ended up with mud when shades combined. I think with the coffee+rust it's a chemical reaction, not just an effect of colors combining? Not 100% sure but I'd be interested in knowing. Thanks for sharing!
@sara-leearmstrong5009Ай бұрын
Thank you 💛 lol yes, I experience the "mud" reaction in my art classroom regularly when my students get carried away with the paint 😆 and yes, I'm guessing it has something to do with the rust causing immediate oxidation of the coffee, but it would be nice to know haha my curious brain did try to Google this but with no results!

I’ve really been wanting to make more rust paper, maybe this is my sign I need to. I just the rust water and the pages are just phenomenal! Have you ever done tea and rust? I can’t do coffee dying, hate the smell 🙊 I actually gave all my coffee dyed paper away bc I hated the smell so much 😂 But I just did a batch of tea dyed music paper I let sit over night, such great color and texture. Anyhow! Thanx for another great tutorial!
@sara-leearmstrong5009Ай бұрын
Thank you! No, I haven't tried rust and tea, but I would be interested to know if it has the same chemical reaction. I have used tea and coffee on their own, they are both quite different aren't they? In NZ at least they are quite different brows too, especially noticeable on fabric 💛🌼🤗
@MessyPaperCrafterАй бұрын
@@sara-leearmstrong5009 Tea and coffee dying definitely give different looks, thankfully I prefer the look of the tea anyhow, so it works out. If I try the tea and rust together, I will try my hardest to remember to update you, but don’t hold your breath lol And yes, I’m curious too on the chemical reaction. Coffee is acidic and tea has tannins, wonder what plays a part in the color changes. Thanx for the fun think.

I’m so in love with this project! Can’t wait to try this…❤ At the time of the camera stopping, did you use the hair dryer to dry each layer lightly? Or just enough for no liquid to run? Then you mentioned baking in the oven. Can you explain what time and temp you did that? Now to go and see if you also teach that waxing thing you do to paper. I can’t remember if it’s something you just told us about or “showed” us.
@sara-leearmstrong500926 күн бұрын
Lol when the stupid camera stopped, I believe I was forcing the liquid to run into the dry areas to make really cool run streaks. I usually wait till I have finished then dry each layer, enough so I can lift them up to put in the oven without all the liquid blending and only getting black tones, or running under the stencils and losing the beautiful pattern. They also dry faster as one layer rather than the whole stack. I put them in my oven at about 30-50 degrees Celsius, until dry. 30 if you want to be cautious, 50 if youre impatient lol like meI just keep checking on them. But at this low temp, it doesnt matter if they stay in there longer. Hope this helps!
@laneyno826 күн бұрын
@@sara-leearmstrong5009 it helps tremendously. Thank you. I can’t wait to try this but I will have to go the 2nd hand shop of books and see if I can build up my paper stash before attempting it. I’m impatient as well and will no doubt do it like you. Thanks for explaining the details😘

Did you say how you dried them? How long does it take to dry that many papers? Thank you.
@sara-leearmstrong5009Ай бұрын
I dried them just enough on each layer so that their was no more pools of water. This will depend on the dryer you are using but I'd say 5-10 mins per layer. Then I put them in a pile (about 10) and put them in the oven, on bake at 40 °c until dry, I just keep checking every 5-10 mins and take the dry ones out, and leave the damp ones in. Hope this helps 💛
