The process to scan legal documents and print them on letter sized paper is much easier if you use the Canon IJ scanning utility on your computer. Scan the legal document using the ADF and save the scan to your computer as a PDF. Then print the legal document using letter size paper and choosing scale to fit in the print dialog. Excellent video--thank you! I just dealt with this issue today. Two different representatives at Canon tech support (which used to be so good) told me that it could not be done. I did find an interesting work-around. Open the IJ Scan Utility (if you don't have it, Canon tech support will help you install it). Click on Settings, then on Document Scan. On the right, choose ADF (Simplex) for Source Type, and Legal for Original Size. Now scan your document as a .pdf. When you print it, it will automatically print it (reduced, of course) on 8.5 x 11 paper. Better than nothing! Now, if you want to, you can scan this, or copy it, or save it as a .jpg, or whatever. Thanks for the info , very good review , I just purchased this unit after my epson artisan 837 died . After installing this G7020 it drew paper from the cassette, after printing a photo it would only draw paper from the rear tray . Now I can see how to change it back. I wish that canon would give you a user guide which they don't, and they don't include a ground wire on the power supply cord, instead they give you a single strand wire to run to a ground that is just awful . I looked at the canon internet site and couldn't find how to get the bottom cassette to feed the printout, now I know, thanks!! This does print nice photos but the sight glass is somewhere from the stone ages. My 8 year old artisan had a very nice display with color lights , sd card reader and a fax line. All new photo printers don't have a fax line which is why I went with this model.

Well explained. I have a G7020. Had to use a USB connection because after a few years of service. The printer will not rec. my WiFi. I was able to send a file and print it but Scanning is a different ball game. The Printer is telling me that the printer is not connected. Any suggestions are welcomed. Thanks.

Thanks for the tutorial! I am done, done, done with trying to figure this piece of JUNK out . . . I do NOT like how complicated this printer is . . . my HP was less complicated . . . I know, I know the cartridges for a HP are WAAAY more expensive, but it sucks that I cannot get my Canon G7020 to print dolor. As far as I am concerned, it is a $300 PIECE of JUNK!!!!!! A really excellent video: clear, well-paced, and not covered by anyone else on the internet. However, the instructions did not work for the G4210 I am using, which is perplexing because the settings are identical. With the paper properly loaded in the ADF and everything configured correctly, I am prompted to "place the document on the platen" (glass surface?). The machine will not pull the original onto the bed and scan it. Anyone else have this problem? Many thanks for any ideas.

Thanks Micheal, great video. I have a question. I don’t have a laptop or computer only an iPad. My printer will not sync with my iPad. I was on the phone with HP and Comcast for two hours and they both said I need a main computer in the house in order for the iPad to wirelessly sync with it. Is this true? If so, what laptop should I get as I would only be using it to solve this problem? I use my iPad for everything. Thanks Micheal.

Platen usually doesn't have legal size for scanning, but I though as long as a printer has top feeder it can scan legal sized document, so looks like it's not the case? And can the ADF do duplexing scanning? Thanks!

Decent printer it is a shame that menu system is so out dated and the network configuration has so much trouble. I can print to the printer from my computer but I can't scan to my computer with IJ scan utility as it claims it can not connect. The manual and help are useless. I am trying to connect to Windows 10 computer and I suspect it has something to do with either Windows firewall or anti virus software blocking me somewhere but Canon help doesn't even attempt to address this for ease of use so I gave up. If it takes more than hour to figure out my time is to valuable. Came across your video searching for a solution. I found Windows Microsoft Store had a free app PDF Document Scanner and also Windows Scan both which work flawlessly. The IJ Scan Utility that Canon puts out just sucks and the menu system on the G7020 sucks but printers are cheap and ink is expensive and at least this printer helps that cost tremendously.
