Today, I share a few tips about sketching, to help jump start you (or at least inspire you), into sketching more often! :) I hope this help you out!

How can you get such perfectly curved or straight lines with a pen tablet? I've tried so many times and never gotten a perfect curved or straight line with the pen tool.

It will never be PERFECT by hand... but you can get pretty close! Move faster, and whip your wrist. The slower you move while drawing, the more staggered your line will be. As for curved lines, I mentioned some techniques in this video. Try segmenting your lines, be confident and bold, ctrl-z is your friend, use the circle tool to create a curved line if necessary!

I'm trying to get into drawing, but I've never had a thing for it. Even my handwriting is bad. Can you go from the point where you can't even make smooth lines to where you can make decent art with enough learning/practice? I also can't imagine myself drawing anything without a reference. Do you learn to visualize the piece in your head over time?

Sure. It's all just practice :) Try starting small. Just try to make a circle, the add things to the circle. They could just be abstract lines... don't worry about trying to make a whole big piece right now. Perhaps try different things to find your style - maybe you'd like a more sketchy artsy style instead. But mostly? It's all just practice, don't worry :)

@@TutsByKai Thanks for the advice. I will definitely keep practicing once I get a tablet, and your videos will be a big help in that. One more question. I have been messing around in Krita in preparation for using it as my go-to art program. I noticed that drawing in higher resolutions like you recommend in another vid takes up a fair amount of space per brush stroke. I have 5.9 gigs of available memory. Is that enough to get away with most drawing needs? Like, do I need to be worried about a piece getting too big if I start delving into more complicated art styles like realism? I just don't want to feel like I have to minimize my lines or brush strokes.

Just seeing this! I'd say it's probably enough. I'd try and save for more around an 8gb memory, but that's should be fine for most. I wouldn't go under 2000 pixels in either direction no matter what, as it gives room to scale up or scale down the piece later, for larger works, or printing or whatnot. I wouldn't worry about the canvas being to big, as something can never be too big, since you'll always have the brush data. But with smaller canvas', you have to draw with a smaller brush, resulting in pixelated strokes. The counter to believing that the canvas is small, is to up your brush size. I typically draw with a 20px brush, going down to a 10px brush depending on what I'm drawing :) Happy art-ing!

Whenever I erase something it uses a checkered board what do I do?

You're drawing everything on the same layer, so when you try to erase the lines, it's erasing the background - showing the transparency.

Head into that brushes settings and just use it's parameters :)

Just try everything out! No matter how many tutorial you watch you will never know how everything works. These do definitely help and give you an idea when to use what but you need to try what you like out.

It's up to you. If that's better for you and your workflow, then sure - but it's usually easier to get a base down with a sketch first :)

Digital pen & tablet is always the best bet. Drawing with a mouse is very difficult. Possible... but difficult.

Thanks for your effort and your teaching time, but this not explaining anything about sketching with Krita, is just a video on how to sketch a face. You don't even mention Krita at all.
