I recently visited a small town in western Tuva in the south of Siberia and was fortunate enough to spend time listening to a master of Tuvan throat singing, also known as Khoomei. Enjoy the sounds of Tuva!

@@supersurfer1 Oh, shut up. You have no clue what you're talking about. By far the worst thing that has happened to all these small countries was Russia and its imperialism. Culturocide under the Soviet union AKA the dungeon of peoples. With forced Russian language and alphabet, nearly uniform population process where Russians would take over the key functions, political and industrial. If all of these small countries would separate from the Russian federation, true Russia would be left with a much smaller area. But it's too late now. Nations are wiped away, russified and it's a lost cause.

I saw a Tuvan throat singing group in Edinburgh in about 1999. They were called Huun Huur Tu and had also worked with Frank Zappa about a decade before. Amazing sounds to hear up close. Lots of this style is used in quite a lot of movie soundtracks. Listen and you'll hear more of that than you might've imagined.

I tried хоомеи once, it’s like humming in your throat and whistling with your mouth, and there you create 2 to 4 tones sung at once. Amazing how this cultural singing style birthed Mongolian and Tibetan tone singing.

The whistling IS the throat singing ... it sounds like whistling but it isn't ... it takes the note made by the throat and the mouth amplifies certain harmonics ... it's so skilful and difficult to do ... I've tried.

3:38 with a slightly slower tempo could fit in with much of the stoner rock I listen to. I discovered a while back that I can do a small bit of this style vocalization and it can be quite rough on your voice box until you find the sweet spot. Mad skillz
