John Wayne's cancer diagnosis is what got ronald reagan to stop smoking(they were very close friends) and him trying to quit smoking is what got reagan hooked on jelly beans especially the jelly belly brand which was a staple of the white house in the 1980's

Talking about cancer so openly, at the time, especially for a public figure (and one of its victims), was not so automatic.. I like remembering John Wayne's efforts, humanity and courage with a smile.

@arthas6402 жыл бұрын
@@zackcross7190 that's debatable. He was exposed to radiation but that doesnt guarantee cancer and can cause a wide variety of cancers based on the type of exposure. John Wayne got ling cancer which is often caused by smoking or exposure to other airborne carcinogens and John Wayne was a lifelong chain smoker, starting in his teens. It can be difficult or even impossible to peg a certain cancer to a certain cause, it's all about statistics more of then not but a lifetime of smoking is a more likely cause then a 1 time exposure to radiation. Hell I was once irradiated so bad I was told not to take a plane since I'd set off the TSA Geiger counters, I was told to flush twice when I used the bathroom to wash away residual radiation, and I was told not to let anyone spend the night in my bed due to being radioactive and I'm fine so radiation isnt a guarantee for cancer but most of the lifelong chain smokers I know end up with some kind of cancer at some point.
@zackcross71902 жыл бұрын
@@arthas640 I guess you could call it the perfect storm of circumstances. Acute radiation poisoning combined with decades of smoking. I guess it doesn’t matter now though.

I heard that when he was directing The Alamo, he was under tremendous stress and he was smoking several packs of cigarettes a day.
@Bellfire057 жыл бұрын
He smoked 6 packs a day. That's a cigarette every three minutes for 20 hours. Wow, and I don't even know when he started so I'll say 18. He was 72 when he died. I'll say he quit for 2 years so that will make 50 years. I'm not certain because I never smoked but I think there are 20 cigarettes in a pack.That's 180 cigarettes a day.and cigarettes. Wow, I had tallied wrong so here is the total for 50 years. 3,285,000 Wow that's whoa.

Money had nothing to do with it. Cigarettes cost nickels and dimes back then. Everybody smoked and was encouraged to. Wayne actually first got diagnosed with lung cancer in '69. He got a lung removed and miraculously survived. He did this commercial soon after. Not sure if he went back to smoking or not.

It has been many years and cancer society hasn't helped one person. My mom was diagnosed with breast in 1992 and they did chemo the barbaric way straight chemicals to the veins and she died for a while but came back, got hit again in 2006 and died from it in 2013. Lost my Aunt and an uncle too. Chemo does nothing

W krajach gdzie jest największy odsetek dorosłych ludzi palących jest najmniejsze zachorowanie na raka płuc. @matthewnikitas8905 He survived lung cancer (early 1960s) which many regard as being due to his smoking habbit. He died some time later due to stomach cancer (late 70s) which many regarded as being related to the radiation of that site (possibly from the water.) But, yes, radiation exposure also increases the risk of lung cancer (as does smoking.) So it can be a dangerous combination.

Robert Conrad was obsessed making sure he did man's job acting.He put Duracell on his shoulder and said C'mon I dare you" go ahead try knock it off. All duded up. Then William shaptner from star trek was also daring tv audience too knock battery off his shoulder. A fist went through television knocked out he shit out of em.
