The government let Woolworths buy out heaps of their major competitors. Smaller abattoirs across the state closed as a result, so that now most of the meat in the state is processed through abattoirs that are owned or exclusively providing to Coles/Woolworths. Less competition + supply restrictions + inflation = higher prices for us.

1kg Watsonia cheese $2.99. Imagine finding meat cheaper than beef or lamb these days. The dairy farmers really were rorting us back then.
