Get a video doorbell and and ignore them from the comfort of you local sofa or pub.

Once you have ascertained who they are, just close the door, or if you want to be polite say "No thank you" and then close the door.

I would be more inclined to take the upper hand from the outset. Establish who is calling. Then, once established, ask them to leave the property because the visit is unsolicited, intrusive, unwarranted and motivated by profit. Taken together, this disturbs your human right to peacefully enjoy your home and family life. Therefore, any implied right of access is withdrawn, for all of the reasons just stated, and the Goon must now leave. Then say goodbye. Then watch the Goon depart. Failing which, inform the Goon that their failure to depart, once asked, and after any implied right has been withdrawn, means they are now trespassing from that point onwards because they have no lawful right to remain. Don't be drawn back into any questions, remain resolute that the only issue that matters is that the Goon must leave, and focus on that. Then concentrate on making sure the Goon does withdraw to the nearest public pavement or highway, because the Goon has absolutely no lawful right to remain within the curtilage of your home (saying "home" means this applies to both home owners and renters, without actually saying anything about your own proprietary status). The above could be printed onto a card (or a memo note kept on your Mobile where you can find it quickly) and kept near the door, and then read out by anyone. A handy reference to read out is safer than trying to remember it all, and avoids accidentally incriminating yourself by talking without preparation (I assume no TV Licence is in fact needed). Do not engage the Goon, just read it out and wait for them to leave, which they must do once asked. It is accepted that there is an implied right to walk straight up to the front door to knock if there is a reasonable and legitimate reason for being there, but this does not cover prowling around the place peering in through windows. There is no implied right to argue with you and, if asked to leave, any implied right leaves with them. The point being, whilst the aim is to switch the emphasis from the Goon's probing and intrusive questions, to asking the Goon to leave, in doing so, you also make it clear that any return visit would thereafter effectively amount to instant trespass and/or potentially be regarded as harassment. Slamming the door in the Goon's face, or not answering, may seem OK, but it rather leaves things up in the air, and wide open for a return visit. Happy to see any other suggestions for a suitable check list, the above is just my own first draft.

I'd love to send you a video when they call at mine now I've moved home (my last place was an upstairs flat and due to having tinnitus I left the doorbell unpowered because it annoyed me and I didn't hear the door being knocked very often because I would have KZfaq playing so loudly because it drowns out the tinnitus, so I have no idea if they called more than one time they left a cute little red card) but the sofa is so close to the front door all I will do when they knock is shout "Go away" from where I'm sat. There won't even be time to put the phone on record.

My rule's always been don't give them a reason to remember you. If you just politely say "no thanks, bye" and close the door, they move on and forget you. If you start a 20 minute rant, laugh in his fac, be mean to him, or do anything to make him remember you tomorrow, then there's a chance he'll not only remember you, but that he''ll make it his mission in life to catch you out on something. That could mean more visits, doing them at the most awkward times, actually going through the effort to get a search Warren, or something else. It's just never worth it, cause they're not gonna listen to a word you say anyway. Anything you say to them, they either already know, or don't care about, n all your rant will do, is make you their new favourite target.

When they come (as they had said they will for the past 3 years) I will be keeping them at the door for as long as possible, It needs to be as painful and unprofitable as possible. If you are not confident with you r argument then saying nothing is then next best thing......but don't close the door. Watch them squirm in your silence. They will go of their own accord. If they try to go......say something to get them back.......then say nothing again. It's a great game and fun for all the family!
