I am glad to see you take safety seriously. So many internet educators don't. You have eye ear and mouth protection when needed. Many of them don't have all of them.

April, this is a great simple build and looks great .. but you knew that ..so ... glad you had fun too. No matter whether you have a rug or hardwood you may still want something to lift those boxes up at least a 1/4 inch or so...Easier to move and clean around etc. And maybe not so convenient to animals and ??? One other thing .. maybe adding brass dowel rods into the shelves to hold to the side cases would prevent unwanted shuffling but removable to separate and relocate etc.?.

When the youngest rented a 1st apartment, we HAD to donate furniture(sticking with that story). In the move, our console became broken. The door on one side never did fit. After seeing your educational vid...It just clicked After breaking it. Love this Modern minimalist look, no obvious handles, this is on the LIST. Thanks for the inspiration!

Hi April Here's as a tip from a diyer from Holland , I do this on all preglued edging tape. see you use the chisel to take of the extra veneer from the preglued tape, just make a start like you do and then turn the chisel flat on the panel and the use of the chisel to cut the veneer, holding it at a little angle and force it gently down. when at the end of the chisel length raise it again and restart. Hope you catch my drift.

I still miss klutzy April, but I am in awe of how far you have come in just a few short years. Two things I would include would be a back to hide the wires, and putting the TV cable and power wires down the inside of the wall. Awesome project, from design to fabrication.

What a great idea. If the carpet was going to stay you could make it float by adding 4 small cubes to the bottom, just set the front two back (but not too far back). Or a cylinder dead in the middle (like a big foot). The OLED tv was niiiice :)
@andrewarcher880

Cut a couple of squares of the plywood you used and place them under the cupboards to lift them just enough to avoid the carpet, this will also add the illustration that they are floating.

This is a nice simple and stylish build, but it seems a bit simple for your skill level April, would be even better to see you do some basic joinery in it, doesn't need dovetails and fancy joints, but maybe some dados for the shelves to sit in, or some mitered corners would just make it more interesting. To make it more accessible for us less experienced makers, maybe do it using simple power tools. I'm always interested in seeing different ways to use a router. I do always enjoy seeing your builds, I'm on the short side, and it's great to see how you find solutions for handling materials and working on larger things, and everything you build is very approachable. This build has already given me ideas for building my own Entertainment Center.

Just a thought but wood glue adheres to the pores in the wood, if you paint the wood where it's going to glue you're filling in those pores and ending up with a weak joint. To avoid that you can lay down a strip of painter's tape the width of the mating surface along where the joint will be prior to painting and remove it after the paint is dry so you have a nice raw wood edge to glue to.

That's a really nice media center April. Using the door handles to camouflage how the shelves are added is quite unique. I initially thought that it was a single unit. Great way to keep the weight manageable.

Unique and beautiful modern design. If it was floating off the ground 8" or so would finished if off for me . Could just screw it through the back directly to the wall as the backs are well fixed on. As a full time carpenter here in ireland we use iron on edging tape alot and just a small tip, we don't use any special tools, just use the side of a chisel or plane iron not the sharp edge ! Might be some tips on you tube how to do it. I admire your work April excellent would love to spend some time with you share some of my 35+years experience . 👏👏👏👏

Great video April! Another way to stop the veneer unravelling is by pulling from the inside of the rolland if you ever can't find the end banding cutter try using any scrap piece of metal that has a 90 degree corner. It creates really clean and quick cuts that never dig into the face veneers:)

April great film and unit once again 👍. Just a quick tip if you use the side edge of your chisel and drag it along the edge you wish to remove, saves digging in and a lot quicker also gives a tidier edge for a quick sand off.

Pretty sweet. I know you aren't worried about the carpet but a scrap square of plywood underneath the end cabinets that's an inch smaller on all sides would probably be enough to provide perfect clearance no matter what floor covering is involved.

Looks very nice! Please be very wary of cross cutting against a fence (about 54 sec in). It could very well kick back on you and better to put a guide block (ahead of the blade) to get the distance and then the offcut will not be forced against anything...

I really like the look of this, good job. Something I personally would add would be a piece of wood on the very top that spans the length of the two boxes and overhangs just a bit. Also, im sure that if modified a bit by changing the dimensions of the boxes and making its taller, this could also be a good office desk design.

The entertainment center is esthetically pleasing! Something tall on top of the white storage cabinets would really set it off. Wondering how the cable connections can be "out of sight , out of mind"? How about housing them in a flat box painted the same colour as the wall... down behind the left side, behind the white cube, and into the the electronics.

As others have stated you still will need feet. Could be simple half inch squares attached at corners (wood would work, but even hard rubber feet would do) Because if you don't you will scratch the daylights out of your wood floor when you install it.

Yeah, cicadas are LOUD! They can definitely overwhelm any audio. Handily, they are almost entirely within a small frequency band, though, so just using a graphical eq and drop the 8k and 10k bands down to -20 or so will almost completely get rid of the cicada sound while not really affecting the vocal range at all. I believe that April uses GarageBand for audio and such processing can definitely be done there. But... it is a separate step and when you're on a one-video-a-week production pipeline like April, it's hard to justify that time.
