This is why I loved Full House. They did the cute, silly, fun episodes but they also did real things people experience in everyday life that aren't always happy and cheerful. This show was one of the few shows that actually talked about death, leaving, and things like that. Best. Show. Ever.
@marlablanco8853 Жыл бұрын
Exactly. Fuller house almost tries to follow on the same thing. It has its own differe t moments, yet sometimes having that same serious family feeling. But I do love full the most
@mattkendrick12455 ай бұрын
Not to mention, full house never needed to do anything extra to make us as viewers feel any emotion…it was all natural. When a show can get you to feel any emotion you know it’s a great show

The recent passing of my father made me think back to this episode. My 3-year-old nephew calls him "Papou", which made me think back to this episode and made me realize that "Papouli" was a Greek word for "Grandpa". My sister-in-law is part Greek, so I suppose it only makes sense.

I love how they don't have an emotional scene where the characters find out he died. That happy to dramatic music transition at 0:39 plus a shot of the house really has the viewer understand what actually happened
@ZakWolf3 жыл бұрын
I think they wanted to try and make it more realistic, or maybe they though a scene with the characters finding out Papouli is dead would've been a bit extreme.

@@superjackster0165 Yeah; the promo for this episode had John Stamos explain that this episode dealt with losing a loved one, and recommended that kids and parents watch it together, and I would assume the TV Guides also stated that someone would die in the episode. So I would assume first-time viewers knew what was going to happen, but not exactly when and how...

Danny breaks Michelle's little popsicle stick craft when he hugs her. She says, "I made this for Papouli. Where is he?" She's thinking, "DADDY! You just BROKE my present for Papouli!" Look at the way she looks at it after it breaks. So funny...

@UltimaKeyMaster6 ай бұрын
Whoever was in charge of the music editing for this episode, you deserve an award for instantly making everyone who watched it know EXACTLY what happened before even seeing the family. Hearing such a different piece from what seemed like a bog standard "here's a cool family member" moment, and such a powerful, haunting one at that. Seriously, that is a masterclass in tone-setting. I'm also blaming you for cutting half a dozen onions by the time I saw everyone's faces. Just to get a little more down-to-earth now, man I remember coming across this episode when I was sorta binging this show in the mid-2000's. That musical change after such an uplifting grandfather that reminded me of my own Sicilian grandfather, my heart sank like a stone. And I still cry to this day watching this scene. Not only is it one of the most heartbreaking scenes in TV history, it's even more powerful with all four of my own grandparents having passed by now. For a brief moment, this went from a loving sitcom to the most realistic depiction of a family dealing with a member's passing I've ever seen on TV before and likely even since. I was simply heartbroken watching this, and I'll feel that way every time, even if it's just from the specific clip. And yeah, I know it hits even harder with Bob's passing just a little while ago. Danny and Papouli can dance the night away now.

Glad to know others are still watching Full House lol. Hopefully some from the newer generations as well as mine. But yeah, this episode is vastly different than all the other ones: from the acting, to the music... to me it feels like a whole other show at times, or more like Full House from a parallel universe where instead of sub-par comedy and over-the-top sillyness, and relationship issues, and Disneyland, it's instead totally serious and tragic... It's truly a special episode that manages to deliver an important, relatable message to us all - that sadly, time here on Earth with our loved ones is short, and we should make the best of it and tell our loved ones how we feel about them, before it's too late.

I mean, before I had even heard what had happened, I was at work and all of a sudden it felt like someone reached inside of my chest and had my heart in a vise grip. For most of the day I was in a major funk. He had only gotten married a few months ago, and now I just can't help but cry at the thought of it. I think it was because in real life John Stamos really does have a Greek heritage and also they wanted to bring it to everyone's attention. As for Pam she was port raid once coming home from the hospital with Michelle. She war motioned several times through out the series but it was far and few between. One case Stephanie was hesitant to go to a mother daughter sleepover. The other one was that Kimmy wanted to drive drunk after a party and DJ reminded Kimmy was killed by a drunk driver.

They should of filmed the scene when they discovered Papouli dead in bed (Jesse: "I don't think Papouli's breathing"), them calling for help (Joey: Where are the damm medics"), and the medics taking his body out of the house with a blanket on top (D.J. and Stephanie: "Why? Why?). Just imagine something like that on a silly show like Full House. I would of loved to see that.

+Diamond King Or maybe Joey Gladstone could have shoved his hand up a dead Papouli's ass and turned him into some sort of high-pitched, wood-obsessed dummy. "Did someone say... WOOD??!" "Joey, this is neither the time or the place. A man is dead!" "Are you going to bury me in a coffin made of... WOOD?!??" "JOEY! It doesn't even make sense, he was an old man, not a woodchuck!"
